I am in the process of upgrading my home theatre system and could use some professional advice. I have found a decent deal on Phase Technology speakers, more specifically the Teatro 6.5 models at onecall.com. Specs are as follows:

Detailed Specifications:
Frequency Response: 45-20,000 Hz
Impedance: 8 Ohms
Sensitivity: 91dB
Midrange/Woofer: 2-5.25 inch vapor deposited titanium cone with passive 5.25 inch vdt bass radiator, both drivers use SBR rubber surrounds
Tweeter: 1 inch soft dome
Dimensions: 18H x 7W x 8 1/8D
Finish: Rosewood and Ebony Ash laminate
Weight: 18 lbs.

I know very little about this manufacturer other than just hearsay of what dealers have experienced with the product, but from what I understand they are quality speakers. All in all I am trying to find a set of surround speakers under $200/pair that will sound good being played 50/50 music/movies in a room 15X20 accompanying a 50" Sony LCD. Right now I am running two old school Sony towers, but they really do sound great for what I use them for and a 9 year old Technics Receiver. Believe me, I know I need to upgrade and definetely plan to do so, but for the time being I am trying to do my research prior to the purchase. I hope to spend around $1000 for a new receiver( most likely Onkyo TSRX630), two surrounds, and a subwoofer(most likely Athena ASP4000). The Phase Tech. speakers are well within this budget (+/- $200/pair) but I was curious what experiences other consumers have had with this product and/or any suggestions for my future potential purchases. I know these types of questions have been asked frequently in the forums, but I didn't find any links with info about the Phase Speakers. I am a little weary about making a purchase on rear surrounds such as these when I know for similar prices I could get a tower speaker with better frequence range and depth. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Phase Tech is a very old and upstanding company. They still manufacture their own drivers. You can check out my review of their current flagship speakers here:

Here's a link to their website:

I really like the sound and value of their speakers. I know there are more people with Teatros on this board, and from what I've read, they're pretty happy. I'd personally go for the LCR speakers if I could, the ones with the twin midbas drivers and a tweeter in a D'Appolito array.

I have the teatro 4.5's and use them as rears. They are actually very clear sounding speakers. They can go pretty loud, but cannot do the bass very well (I tried them in 2.0 and 2.1 prior to putting them in the rear). The highs sound great. I would say they won't go much below 80Hz with any authority, so they should be used with a sub. The 6.5's might be a bit better, I don't know.

For the price, it is a no brainer to me. They are like $100 each now, right? The black is vinyl, but looks quite nice. The woofers look really sweet, they are titanium coated. That's a plus if you plan to leave the covers off. The covers are nice as well, and look kind of cool with the rounded tops. The build quality seems solid, although I did not take them apart.

I don't know where you'd find speakers as good as the 6.5's for equal or less money. Certainly not one's with twin drivers and a tweeter.

Seriously, I have no life.
While not your speakers there are several interesting reviews in issue 106 of The $ensible $ound of Phase Tech speakers, crossover design, etc.

Even jaxvon my enjoy it:D
