Is a TV ARC out going to work around getting a HDMI 1.4 receiver or not?

I'm wondering if i connect my PS3 direct to my Panasonic GT25 3D TV with ARC out I can avoid the need to buy a HDMI 1.4 compatible receiver.

If I buy a 1.3 receiver I know it wont pass 3D through the receiver to the TV. If I connect the PS3 directly to the TV will I be making audio compromises by having the sound pass through the ARC HDMI on the TV?

My budget is $750 - $900. If my thought would be a compromise to Audio or Video then I'll likely go with the Onkyo 808 or 1008. If not then I'd rather get the Denon 4310ci.

Any advise would be greatly appreciate. I may be totally off in my research or understanding on how all this works ;). My current receiver doesn't even support HDMI so I'll be looking for something to last me at least 4-6 years.

Only HDMI 1.4 can handle the ARC. Both ends of the connection also need to be ARC capable.

You can get the Denon 3311 through Electronics Expo for $777.48 using coupon “techbargains”.

Thanks for the response AVRat. I figure I wasn't thinking about it correctly. I'll likely go with a 1.4 receiver. I'm considering the 3311 but probably wont go with Electronics Expo. Pretty shady reseller rating.
