Is a fuzzy sound coming from speakers normal?

This question has a few parts.. Currently I have the bose lifestyle 18 system, and I am selling it luckily to replace with a non bose system. But I sit close to my speakers and I can always hear a fuzzy noise during quiet scenes or when nothing is playing, it's hardly a big deal, but it makes me wonder if I should invest in anything special to go with my new system, which will run off the onkyo sr507. That said, should I get

-Banana plugs? (don't know what they do really? Improve the connection?)
-Power conditioner ( I couldn't imagine spending much on one, but theoretically would it help the fuzzy noise?)
-Hi-Fi speaker wire? I don't need more than 50 feet, but I don't want to spend more than 20 dollars to be honest..

I guess I just want to know what's causing the buzz.. I'm a little afraid that I will get a REALLY loud buzz when I connect my headphones to the new receiver. Do power conditioners help that?

Banana plugs and different wire will make no difference. If you have some line noise, a power conditioner may help, and unfortunately it also may not.

That noise is either coming from the amplifier itself or the amp is picking up that noise from one or more components and just like all the other audio signals, it is being amplified. Is your receiver turned up very high to get normal listening levels?

I dont have a reference point, but I have it on about 30 usually. It is a bose receiver lifestyle.. I am selling it, but I guess Ill see if the new receiver has that problem when i get it.

I agree with j_garcia, you need to find the source of the trouble. I propose that you disconnect all devices (e.g. cd-player etc) and only leave the amplifier connected and see if the noise remains. Then the amp is the problem.

If the amp is fine, connect the devices one by one and locate the problem.

When you know more about the source of the problem we might be able to help you further.

How did it go? Did you find a fix?
I HAVE TO PLUG IN MY NEW SYSTEM WHICH IS ARRIVING IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, AND I WILL SEE WHETHER IT HUMS/BUZZES LIKE THE BOSE SYSTEM DO. THEN ILL GO FROM THERE. THANKS FOR ASKING.
