Is 110" too big for a Epson 8700UB?

Hello,
Im trying to decide on screen size and I had someone make some comments that got me thinking. Originally I was thinking 120" as I have the space, however I was told that the image would be degraded going this large with this projector. This person suggested something in the 100-110 range as a maximum. He also sells runco, so Im not sure is it was mostly a sales pitch or true fact info. Throw to the screen is 15 feet, minor ambient light. Can anyone chime in on picture quality around 110" with this projector please! His comments were something like, "At that image size you will be really working the projector to keep up, and that is not recommended, you need a projector with a better (and I cant remember exactly his wording, something like) image processor or light engine.

Thank you in advance!

Epson 8700UB owners, which screen??

Also looking for feed back on which screen under 1000 for espon 8700UB. It will be in a basement, 15feet throw distance. During the day there will be a little bit of ambient light filtering down from upstairs (stairwell). I will want a little bit of light on when watching hockey rather than sitting in complete darkness.

I've been considering the grandview 1.0 gain matte white, but I have read that is there is any ambient light I should be at a 0.8 grey.

How does the Grandview product compare to Carada?(other than the shipping to Canada which I will have to take into consideration).

People with this projector or ones similar, what is your experience please!!
Thank you in advance!

hi Clint,
Thank you for the reply. You dont think there will be any loss of image quality throwing a 120" image? Main viewing position (couch) will be right under the projector at 15'. Couple of side chairs might be in the 10-12' range.
Thank you again..

I've used the 8350 on a 133" diagonal and the client was blown away in a less than ideal room. The 8700 will have no issues on a screen up to about 120" to 140" as long as you are using a minimally positive gain screen, like the Carada Brilliant White. I've used the Panasonic AX200 on a screen as large as 161" in a properly dark theater with a client still happy after a few years on the original lamp.

With a 15' viewing distance, you could pretty easily go to a 133" diagonal and be happy with the results. The general rule is that viewing distance should be 1.5x the screen WIDTH, so a 120" wide screen = 180" viewing distance = ideal!

Sporting events allow for significant ambient lighting because they tend to be very bright. Movies tend to be dark for dramatic effect. I can have every light in the house on and still watch a ball game. Though I do prefer the dark.

You can certainly do 110" with the 8700UB. I think you could easily get to 120 if you wanted. Especially with good light control.

As far as brightness goes you'll be fine.

I've for mine shooting on a 106" brilliant white carada from 14'. In THX mode my brightness is set at -9 with 350 hours on the bulb.

Plenty of headroom left to combat bulb dimming.

At these settings in a dark room the Nine inch nails concert Blu-ray will burn your retinas out of your eyes.

It's like being there. The punch this projector has with things like strobe lights is awesome.
