Iran backs out of Nuke Deal.

Truly, a country that cannot be taken at it's word.

"President Obama’s policy of diplomatic engagement with Iran is close to collapse as Tehran backtracks on a crucial deal aimed at cutting its stockpiles of nuclear fuel.

The framework deal, along with an offer to allow international inspectors into its newly-revealed enrichment plant at Qom, was hailed as evidence that Iran was responding positively to the diplomatic track.

Today, however, with just hours until the deadline, Iran has turned the table on its foreign interlocutors with a rival proposal, demanding that it be allowed to buy higher enriched uranium directly from abroad."

Diplomacy is not an exact science and posturing always takes place and sometimes positions change. It's just that this particular negotiation is under the microscope so we see the process step-by-step. But this sort of thing goes on in every negotiation.

I read that they were looking to purchase 20% enriched Uranium from abroad. This is good for nuclear power plants, but not capable of being used for a weapon. It's still worth pursuing as Iran still has a long way to go before being able to make a weapon. It costs little to talk. If it yields nothing, then military action is always an option and it make sense to wait till they're closer as striking then really sets them back. It also gives the appearance that all was done to prevent it. It may be the case that Iran is stringing the West along, but don't realize we're doing the same in a way.

I'll bet they'd agree to Russia processing the nuclear fuel to weapon's grade.

So would I if I had nuclear-armed enemies surrounding me. Doesn't matter as it's highly unlikely Russia would agree.

I hope nobody's jaw is on the floor from this.
I'm not sure how genuine their original agreement was to begin with, but it's certainly not a shock that we can't take them for their word.

Do we have any of those neutron bombs sitting around? I know I remember setting one down somewhere.

Not looking to argue or shout, just discussion, but do you think that's Iran's motivation in pursuing nuclear capability which could be used for weapons?

I think one would have to be naive to take Iran at its word that its program is for power purposes only. But this is why it'd be good to get them to purchase the 20% enriched stuff from overseas so they stop making it locally. So they can say we have the right to enrich uranium, but it's cheaper for us to buy it abroad so we don't. I can live with that.

I suppose it'd be better to flat out attack them and watch oil hit $200/barrel. And at the same time, stabilize their political situation.

Time to show these bastards what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a nuclear strike

Sadly, I see it coming to that.
Maybe not in Iran, maybe not N. Korea, but the supposed bullies on the block are getting our butts kicked. And, given the current economy, we simply can't afford to keep up the street fighting.
I'm not in any way wishing or condoning it, but I can see things headed in that direction.

Unfortunately when you are talking nukes, it is not surgical. The fall out will be at the whim of the weather.

Well put. I have no doubt that Iran wants nuclear weapons. But, in the end, Israel will not permit it. They'll put a stop to it before it's too late. The problem will be holding them back until the right time, i.e. when there is iron-clad proof of Iran's weapons program.

There is no way that'll happen. If any action is taken, it'll be conventional only. The consequences are far too horrifying to contemplate. To even suggest a nuclear strike isn't terribly intelligent thinking....
