iPod Touch vs. iPad dilema

Ok, my wife got me an iPod Touch for my birthday. I've been considering one, but have been to cheap to do it since my existing MP3 player has really great sound (Creative Zen) and works well. But I've also been interested in the iPad.

I travel for work so the wifi is cool with both. Doesn't look like either one has a camera so forget using one or the other as a web-cam.

Anyone used both and can provide objective pro-cons?

Thanks!

The only real difference between an iPod Touch and an Ipad is the size.

So it comes down to do you want something that fits in your pocket or not.

One thing could be that you can get an iPad with 3G capability, which would be more versatile than the iPod Touch since you could use it anywhere a cell phone would work instead of being limited by WiFi connections. However, you do have to pay for a data plan to use that, so that should also be taken into consideration.

I have an iPod Touch and I really enjoy it. But the larger screen of the iPad is tempting, especially if you travel without a lap top.

The main different is size, but that's quite significant. On the one hand, the Pad gives you more real estate which means that apps other than the music app and that are written for the IPad screen can have more screen detail and a richer functionality on one screen. On the other hand, the Pod will fit in your pocket and its wide range of functionality (basically the same as the IPad but with simpler screens) epitomizes portability. Since I have an IPhone, I think I will wait until version 2 of the IPad to see what they add. With some USB ports and drivers, you could have a real keyboard, a flash drive and a printer, which would allow the Pad to replace a laptop but for now, I am opting for portability.

Ummm...the main difference is price for the devices. They have an incredibly small amount of storage for an insanely massive price. If you read electronic books, get an iPad. If you don't, keep the iPod Touch. Neither have any memory slots for expansion.

(Correct. I'm not a fan of Apple and their products, in general.)

if your looking for something to use instead of a laptop for short trips then I would get the ipad (with 3g), but if your still going to bring a laptop with you wherever then stick with the ipod touch. I'll probably be waiting until the second gen ipad though before I seriously consider buying it. It needs an sd card slot, front facing camera, a lot more memory, lower price, and a built in stand :D

Thanks everyone. I kept the iPod touch but upgraded to the 32gb model. I do travel with a laptop but it's works so no porn.

I was torn since I do have a mp3 player but it's only 8gb and I've had to be selective about what songs go on it. So I was torn.

We'll see how this goes. It's our first foray into the Apple product realm. I've stayed away because of the price and I'm a cheapskate. Well...not when it comes to speakers or TV or other important things like power tools. But Apple's prices always seemed high to me.

Well, I'll run with this one and see how I like it in the long run!

Good choice. I had an 8gb ipod touch but I sold it because it didn't have enough storage space. If your looking for a case now, my recommendation is switcheasy. They have some sweet cases :D

I have a 2nd gen 8 gig ipod touch, but I'm hoping to upgrade to the 4th gen ipod touch if it has a camera, but I mainly need more storage space, so I'll go with at least 32 gigs for my next one.
