I'm trying to understand something. I'm torn between the Denon 3806 or Denon 2807. The 2807 says it has ipod compatability. Why can't you connect the ipod to the 3806 with a docking station? I was also looking at the Archos 604 which is a cool mp3 player the can also record tv and play videos. It has a docking station with av in and outs. It says it can be hooked up to any receiver. Am I missing something? I want the Denon 3806, but I want to beable to hook up a mp3 player to it. Thanks!

You aren't missing anything and there was a thread on this very topic recently so you might want to search for it for more detailed info.

The short answer is that you can connect an iPod to any receiver using ANY of its analog inputs (CD, DVD, Tape, Aux, Video1/2/3, etc). Receivers that advertise 'iPod compatibility' simply provide additional features like scrolling the song name on the display, using the receiver's remote to control the iPod, etc.

I'm trying to decide between these two receivers myself. I'm also throwing in the AVR-987. They're all about the same price (within $100).

Yup - any receiver can hook into an ipod one way or another. I used to use an ipod docking station via the line out, but have since switched to Squeezebox 3 to have my whole collection available at all times. Its the best piece of gear I've purchased in a long, long time - sounds absolutely fantastic once you tweak it for your system :)
