iPad as Music Server?

Hey guys, I recently got a nice pair of Hogtalare Bluetooth speakers from Morel. It was a Kickstarter that I jumped on and I'm extremely happy with the result. Three dedicated custom amps in each speaker, one for each driver, great frequency response, very good sound quality so far. They are in the link at the bottom if anyone wants to check them out. Each speaker has it's own left/right channels so when using one as a stand-alone Bluetooth speaker each dome tweeter acts as it's own separate channel. When two speakers are paid together, the electronics change the setup so each full speaker system is a left or right. Anyway, I'm looking to set up a dedicated music "server" for listening at home, without having to stream from my iPhone. As much as I'd love a $1,000+ device from Cambridge, it's not really in the cards right now. I have an iPad mini that is a few years old that I think would be perfect for the job. I'm looking for input on how you guys may have set up a device like this. I mainly use Spotify and iTunes, but would be open to other great music apps or services. Just looking for ideas and discussion. Thanks!

When I stream Spotify (don't use applish stuff) from my android device (phone in my case) it's not bluetooth for the stream, It's wifi, which is my preference. I see these are wifi compatible but not sure what that particularly means. If it's wifi it wouldn't really matter what you initiate the stream with as far as a device goes....

I use an old ipad for control of my iTunes music and for Plex music. It simply operates as a remote control. As @lovinthehd said its Wifi not Bluetooth. That's at least the way I use it. So in a sense, my ipad does what you described using the Remote control function of ITunes and the same type function running Plex.

With the recent dumping of iTunes by Apple, I don't know the future of the Remote app and how iTunes will behave in the future. That's one recent I migrated to Plex. I have them both running side by side. That way when Apple pisses me off for the last time I'm all primed and ready to go.
