Inventor of the TV remote dies

Interesting. While reading the news story about Polley, I realized how quickly the remote control went from luxury to standard. Now it's so common that I have to be reminded that it was an invention someone had to create. No one wants to go back to the days of TVs, receivers, or disc players without remotes. Its impossible to think of disc players, or even VCRs, without remote controls.

Why is it that some audio fans want to go back to tube amps or turntables with vinyl records, but NO ONE wants to go back to electronic devices without remote controls?

Eugene Polley also deserves credit for inventing the mute button :D!

What he actually invented was the couch potato. Yes, it is something we take for granted at this point. I do recall the days of having to get up and walk over to the TV to change the channel.
