I'm a newbie to the forum. I have an old Paradigm monitor bookshelves system on the 3rd floor that I never use. I recently bought a Samsung SUHD for my living room and quickly grew to love the TV, but hate the speakers, so I impetuously put together a system. The goal was a system for watching TV, but also something that will fill my downstairs with music. The TV room is an open 30+ft X 15ft with a bump-out breakfast nook and 3 doorways leading to center hall and other rooms. In other words, a lot of openings for sound to escape. I ended up purchasing:
Fluance Signature Floor standing
Fluance Signature Center
Fluance Signature Bipolar surrounds (After purchasing, I read a bookshelf surround is ideal, but oh well)
Yamaha TSR 7810 - Couldn't pass up this Costco purchase.
Speaker wire: 12 gauge stranded for low voltage lighting
Before buying, I found this site and did some research. Although Fluance had mixed reviews, it seemed people with larger areas liked them better than people in smaller rooms. Also, there was a "defect" that was supposed to have been corrected. Overall, I find the sound pleasing, and the bass certainly fills the room. I have a bunch of questions ranging from connecting components to speaker placement, other things I should be doing. but for now, an introduction is enough. Please feel free to pass along any newbie things I should do / watch out for.

Thank You,
Andrew

Nice system, I think you will like it. The speakers are a good choice for something that has to look nice and fill a large room.

Hi Shady and IceCream, Thank you both for the reassurance. I didn't do a lot of comparisons and relied on the review of others. Why do work that has already been done by others? I am pleased with how well they fill the room.

lovin, I wanted to get a surround system up and running. The plan was a sub and +2 speakers would come later. Honestly, I am so happy with the performance of the current configuration, I am unsure if I want to go to 7.1 or stay at 5.0

I now need to hang the TV, place the speakers under the TV, run the surround wires down through the basement, and hand the surrounds. I have a lot of work to do quickly, before the wife loses it!

Thank you all.

If you like movies or just better bass a subwoofer will add to what you have if the WAF allows. Multiple speakers underneath the tv, though? Maybe just the center?

lovin,
I have a powered 12" Paradigm upstairs, but there is so much bass coming from the downstairs floor standing speakers, I am not feeling a need. Regarding the floor standing speakers. I have to get them out of the way. I have the 65" TV in a corner and it takes 80 inches horizontally. So the speakers will be 3-4 ft. apart. If it sounds bad, I can scoot them out when listening, and scoot back when wife comes home ;-)
