Have not checked your speed in a while, fear not, as I will post a way to check.

So what is your speed?

To test yours, just click on my image, it will bring you directly to the speed page.
Test to the closest server in your area, once done you will have a few options.
left click on (forum link), it will automatically copy the link & image, then post it here just by pasting it.
It is that simple....

You may want to say what type of connection you have, in my case it is cable.

Have fun.....:)

I averaged about.....

3600 download
1000 upload

6813 kbps (6.8 mbps) but that is because I chose a server in Austin and it's late at night when I am wide awake and sensible people are sleeping.

I've used various speed tests, including the one from Time Warner Austin, and I average 5 mbps.

Mine sucks.
549 kb/s down
309 kb/s up

Test server pinged 63 ms @ ~100 miles.
This is supposed to be a wireless microwave that's linked to a T-1 line....

I don't know what all that means, but when I download a torrent that is healthy, it goes at 320kbps.

I don't think I'd see these numbers if it wasn't Black Saturday, before 7 a.m.
Everyone is at the mall.

Speedtest.net told me 10 megabytes/second. Thats obviously wrong.

Time-Warner Cable's test told me 1.2 megs/sec. Which seems higher than what I actually get.

And my cable bill is $140/month. :p

Everyone should realize that the test is showing the results in bits. There are 8 bits in a byte.

So, for Ninja 10 Mb/s = 1.25 MB/s. This division also makes sense for the other post here. So, I think the test is doing the job right.

Hmmm, not quite what I'm supposed to be getting. I'll have to check it a few more times today.

Thanks, Gasman!

My speed varies a little. This is on the low end of what I've tested at. I've tested up to around 9000kb/s down and 700kb/s up but this isn't bad either. :) I pay $35/month for 10Mb cable.

EDIT: Hmmmm, my ISP doesn't show up but it's Hood Canal Communications.

I'm working in an ottawa government building right now and we're on weekend :D Actually, at that speeds, I think the bottleneck is the computer! lol

The other day at home I was downloading the 1.4Gb demo of COD4 and I was downloading at 815 kbps stable; the fastest I've done yet. I have cable (rated at 7mbps by my service provider).

:eek: Now that's Comcastic! :rolleyes::rolleyes:

More like Comcraptic as Comcast has designed their "Powerboost" feature to fool all the online speed tests such as this one.

This high speed lasts about 10 seconds tops then drops back to 6 Kilobits per second.

That web link is way cool:D
Why not try a trace to Europe and see how fast it is:D
My upload is consistently in the 350 +/-, download varies a bit

That is a great toy you found. Try to ping Europe or any other parts of the world that is available:D The arc is like an incoming missile:D

!
So, how does that byte abbreviation would look on such a test page? And, the cable service rating is in bits or bytes?

Most ISP's rate their speed in bits per second (kilobits or megabits).

Since network traffic is a serial data stream, IMHO this is the proper way to measure it, as the physical data is being sent and received one bit at a time.
