I couldn't help but notice that internet-direct sellers exist for cables, electronics, and speakers, but none exist for TV's or projectors. Anyone have an idea why that is?

think of vizo(and others) in that terms. IMO the cost of sourcing the parts for the displays, versus internet only distribution doesnt work well with displays. Alot of lesser branded displays have always been avialble through tiger direct type companies, but as for the manufacturer being the point of distribution, most consumers want to "touch" the product, so they choose wholesale distributers like wallmart and costco are their outlets.

I'm going to take a wild guess, and say because of the cost for research, and development. Also I think the technology is changing to fast.

Displays aren't something you can build in your garage. You need plants to manufacture key components or you need purchasing power to buy in the tens of thousands to keep costs down. Then you need distribution channels. Small companies cannot compete in a market like that.

Dell

You might consider Dell an ID display manufacturer, but they are the exception not the norm.

Displays are vastly more complicated that cables or speakers. In that buisness the volume is high and the margins are razor thin. I think most people would not buy a display without seeing it first.
