Intermittant Sub Woofer

Altec Lansing SubWoofer plugged into a Docking Station with a laptop connected. Sometimes the subwoofer is on and the system sounds unbelieveable. But then for no reason the subwoofer will cut out. Sometimes the Subwoofer will not come on at all and then suddenly starts in the middle of the song. When I reconnected everything -the subwoofer was consistently on for about a week and then went back to being intermittant. I have ssen some posts on this problem but none coming from a laptop - Docking station setup. Any one have any ideas?

Sounds like a short or loose connection somewhere. I would check all wire connections externally and internally on each end of the chain.

does the sub have a "auto on" ?
