Hello everyone

To explain my problem better let me tell you my set up.

Meridian 557 Stereo Power Amp
Meridian 502 Analogue Controller
Arcam FMJ CD player
B&W Nautilus 804 Speakers

Everything was bought in 2001, and worked perfect till now.
I relocated to Argentina and have to use a transformer to go from 110 to 220
(transformer 220-115V, 1500.

It worked fine for about a year. Now it has develop an intermittant low clicking noise in the right speaker, we have checked the amplifier, preamp transformer, cables, seems everything is working.

Don't know which other route to take, could it be the electricity in the house wiring, if so what is the best route to take?

Thank you very much

Wow, that is a tough one! My guess is that it could be house electricity related as you mentioned. Are you using a surge guard/line conditioner? If not, I'd try that to see if that clears up _ or at least reduces _ the problem.

Yes a friend of mine had a similar problem & getting a nice conditioner from someone like APC, Furman or Sinktel will probably do the trick. His was coming from the left channel but that cleared it right up. Hope you get the same results!!

Have you switched speakers. Does it stay on the same receiver channel, or stay with the speaker?

I fail to see how a power issue would affect only one channel.

If it's on all sources, I'm out of ideas.

But, if it's only on CD, it's possible that it's mistracking or something else internally.

Thank you for your replies

I'm still trying to figure out the problem
Forgot to mention that the clicking happens even when there is no signal going through with the amp and pre-amp on.
Balanced inputs are working , speakers are working.
Now i can move the clicking from right to left speaker by changing the speaker inputs, it leads me to believe that the right speaker input has a problem.
Could that be?
Anymore sugestion are greatly appreciated

Thank you very much

By chance have you called Meridian about this? Always a good idea to get inputs from the maker. And, it might be a free phone call. :D

Now you're confusing me.

Now i can move the clicking from right to left speaker by changing the speaker inputs, it leads me to believe that the right speaker input has a problem.
Maybe the syntax is unclear and I misread it but, to me, this tells me that the problem originates before the power amplifer outputs, which means anything except the speakers.

This narrows it down.

Either your power amp or preamp has a fault.

Switch the pre amp outputs to the amp inputs. If the fault moves to the left the preamp needs service. If it stays on the right the power amp needs service. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. They need to find the fault in the failing unit.
