The seller is doing a good job of hyping them as you yourself are interested.Too bad that they are so outdated and huge that almost nobody can use them in real world applications. There are many builds out there Andrew and Chris's Kappa sub being one(I built 2 and they are amazing) is a great place to start. This sub you have found may be SPL oriented but as far as real use I would go for almost ANYTHING else.........

Nice review Jamie! OP, Jamie knows his audio stuff, I would take his advice and look for another solution.

The Seller of the Black Hole subs is now in the middle of designing and building 4 subs, each sealed with Dual Opposed 18" TC-Sounds LMS drivers...

Thats 8 LMS drivers in 4 cabinets, his build thread "The Quasar Array" is going on over at AVS.... His goal of flat to 4hz or something like that is IMO a bit of stretch IMO, but they will certainly be very impressive to say the least... He will need alot of amp power - at a far greater expense then I have even spent, but to each their own...

Ive been following it for a while now..

I may be soon doing a design of 3 way full range speakers housing 15" LMS drivers. Looks like LMS is the way to go these days (duh, its only the best performing driver in the world).

I posted this up for the purpose of debate, more than anything. There's no way in hell I could ever fit those in my listening room. I just really was wondering if it would even be possible to back up these kind of claims with this type of design, and then would it even be possible to backwards engineer something like this.

It makes me wonder how far we can take this, given current physical and financial constraints. It's kinda exciting. My former home made HT rig was flat to 12Hz @ 114dB, but with an unknown distortion %. It took alot of electronic manipulation to make that happen and a helluva lot of power, so anyone who can make this work with just a speaker, box and an amp intrigues me.

Warpdrv already mentioned AVS, I'm pretty sure there is a build thread over there with subs that look darn close to these. I'm guessing someone has already done the design work for you.

Its obviously all going to depend on the room and the response, as well as all the EQ electronics involved to get flat to whatever...

Either way, personally I think shooting for flat below 15hz is not all that, sure there is material down below there, but you can't hear it, feel it yes.

I was very interested in this design with the Dual opposed LMS's, but the cabinets were just too large for my room, and the power required is just getting to expensive... I'm already more then thrilled with the performance of what I have going. The 18" LMS's are more then potent sealed with 4000w behind them... Can't wait to get the 3rd...

If someone wanted, they could easily build a sub that could out perform what those black holes can do... for far less money. I just don't care for the big stupid cabinets required for the ported builds of this nature... LLT's are ok, for reaching the depths and can be done easily, but I think it starts to detract from the upper freq response range. I have seen alot of guys switch from large ported boxes to multiple small sealed arrays like I did...
