Interesting wall treatment

Just watching a show called "I Want That" on HGTV with Mrs. and they featured these interesting 3-D wall tiles made from recycled paper by a company called Mioculture. Besides the visual interest, they look like they might add some diffusion to a wall. They can be painted, and combined in several ways to make different patterns. Not pricey, either. And decent WAF if contemporary style is a shared taste.

The Website has lots of time-wasting and annoying Flash animation but take a look. The product is called V2. I filed the link away with my eventual listening room project in mind.

Interesting for sure, I wonder if it has sound absorption properties as well?

Wow, those are cheap. I wonder if they would reflect sound or just allow it to pass though?

I dont think paper is a very good reflector of sound, depends on the density and thickness and ofcourse if you dont coat it with a glossy paint.

At BEST, they'll provide some diffusion in the extreme highs. To provide more broadband diffusion, those patterns won't be anywhere deep or wide enough to do the job. Bigger waves will basically just ignore the pattern.

Out of curiosity I emailed them (Mio Culture) asking about any acoustic properties of their V2 product and this the response I got:

Thanks for your inquiry!

Your observations are correct. Although our current wallpaper offerngs are not designed as acoustic tiles, they do offer some acoustic benefits. As you correctly stated, V2 does diffuse sound and when used in larger quantities over many surfaces has the capability of absorbing sound.

If you have any further inquiries, please feel free to email or call us at: xxx-xxx-xxxx

I omitted the phone number for etiquette reason. just go to their website and look up 'contact'

It definitely would make for an interesting project. I played around with the pattern tool, you can come up with some pretty cool shapes, should at least hit a couple of points on the WAF scale. :)
