Dont get "caught up" in spending a lot of money on cables and wires. Check bluejeans and monoprice for some good and affordable gear.

In my main system im running tributaries for interconnects & home brew speaker wires, your local Mac dealer should cary tributaries cables.

FYI you wont find alot of people on this forum who use or believe in botique or high end cables, including myself,as long as your running a quality cable one brand is just as good as the next, the good thing about Tributaries cables is that they are made like high end cables at the price of cheap monster cable.

I'll second the recommendation for bluejeans cable. High quality wire. Good connectors. Fast service. No audiophile nonsense. Two thumbs up.

Since cables do not alter the sound, the criteria I would use is, thickness ( for runs over 50 feet 12 gauge, 14 gauge otherwise) price and looks (if they are exposed). I use 14 gauge from Radio Shack because they happen to have a store near buy. Many members here on AH have posted that they liked the Blue Jean cables which are a bit more expensive, but can be custom made and will look better.

If your cables costs as much as a decent second had car, you have been had. :D

Cobalt Cables and Impact Acoustics like Blue Jean makes them custom. Impact was having a sale, donno if its still on.

IMHO, buy quality bulk cable, some quality terminators and make your own.
