Integrating AVR with separates

This may be a dumb question but I was wondering if it is possible to set up a 2 channel listening system using pre-amplifier connected to power amplifier via Balanced (XLR) cables with turntable, CD transport and digital music sources all connected to preamplifier. In my case this would leave the AVR having only to power the center channel, 2 - side surround channels and 1 - back channel. I currently do not have a subwoofer because my large main speakers play down to 26Hz. In this set up is it possible to listen to 2 channel music without having to even turn on the AVR and use the AVR only when TV / Movies will be watched. How would the AVR be connected to the system set up this way - to the preamp utilizing HT bypass connector? What if the pre-amplifier has no HT bypass capability ?

I am currently running a Denon AVR X4000 along with an ATI Hyper Core AT-542 Class D power amplifier using the AVR Front channel Pre-Outs and would like to add quality pre-amplifier like Parasound P6 or an NAD C-658. Looking for a pre-amplifier with a quality DAC, quality Phono stage, sub woofer capability and HT bypass. Rest of system: Thorens TD-318 TT with Nagaoka MP-110 cart., AudioLab 6000CDT and a Yamaha Adventage A1060 Bluray player along with Schiit Phono Pre-amp and Schiit Loki EQ/Tone Control lastly, speakers are Alta Audio Lelantos ($9K-$10K when new.

Thanks for any advice and comments.

That will be a Frankenstein nightmare system, and will give bad results. If you are running a two channel system forget the audio preamp. Get rid of that out of date Denon. Buy a Marantz AV 7706. That will give you far better results and update you.

Thanks TLS Guy.

That sounds like a plan I know Marantz makes quality and musical AVRs.
Going that route I would like the most musical AVR along with DIRAC Live!

If you want DIRAC live then you need an Arcam AVP. Personally I don't use those auto Eq programs.

You can purchase a Parasound 2.1 P6 Preamp which has a HT bypass feature allowing you to do exactly what you want to do.

Thanks sterling shoote.
I know that both suggestions would work and I have never had separates before.
I was told by the owner of the old New England HiFi store that the AVR quality has gotten pretty good
and very few people are still going the pre-amp power amp route!

Look at the measurements of various pre-pros vs avrs at audiosciencereview.com. I seriously doubt you will gain anything audibly by changing pre-amp, tho.

Your dealer gave you good advice. :) If the X4000 is still working well, you may want to wait for a year for the dust to settle. At the moment, it is hard to get anything because of supply chain issues, and prices are generally jacked up quite a bit.

I recommend simply playing music with the A/V system you already have. It shouldn't be necessary to do something special to play music recordings.
