integrated amp to power amp using speaker cable?

i have an old parasound CA220 integrated amplifier and a kenwood power amp that i want to use to run a pair of Athena F2's. The prob is the parasound does not have any pre-outs. I tried running RCAs through the Tape Out but that was a really bad idea. VERY LOUD.

I saw that radio shack carries Speaker Cable to RCA adapters... would this work for this?

Welcome to the forum!

A speaker level to RCA converter would likely work, but someone else here with more knowledge would need to chime in to say how well. I've never used one of those, but I have seen them.

I can't find any info on your Parasound, except that it's from the 80s. Does that unit have a headphone output? If so, you could try an inexpensive cable that converts a headphone jack to RCA jacks and give that a try - that way, the signal that you send to your Kenwood amp would be controlled by the volume control on the Parasound. If you have any questions about that type of cable, just let us know. You can get them really pretty cheap, and Radio Shack carries them (as do online merchants like Monoprice.com).

EDIT: I'm guessing that if the Parasound has a headphone jack that it's a 1/4" jack. Here is a cable that would work for you from Radio Shack.

I am not sure what you really want to do with those two components? What other components are in your system?

thanks. ive been on this forum and site forever but never posted on the forum before.

i should have thought of that, considering i do that all the time with my mixer. the parasound amp is from 1988 i believe. My dad bought it a while back at a garage sale for like 15 dollars and eventually gave it to me when i bought a house. I use it for listening to music in the living room, away from my HT downstairs. It worked just fine for the small Infinity satellites i had before.

well i was thinkin of using the kenwood power amp to power my floorstanding speakers. the idea was to use the speaker out in the parasound amp to go into the kenwood speaker b in.

i used the headphone out jack to connect to RCA of the kenwood but it was overly loud. not as bad as before, but the kenwood produces way too much background static noise, even with no music/sound. :(

i also tried it with my pioneer elite AV receiver and it also had a lot of noise. scrap that idea.

the speakers seem to work just fine with the parasound. the amp is only 20w/ch so i was a bit nervous in using it.

I'm not sure if Parasound is still in business but if they are, maybe you can contact them to find out where a good place to take the preamp signal and then re-route it to one set of jacks on the back. It's usually not that hard to do, it's just a matter of knowing the best place to tap into.
