Quick question

Do you have access to channel levels and be able to change them, when you are using the analog multichannel inputs of the Integra or Onkyo pre/pro or receivers like for Sacd or Dvd-Audio playback? Thanks very much in advance.

That's a very good question that I don't have an answer to. I never did get a chance to hook up my SACD player to the Integra before I returned it. I will check this out once I get the new unit hooked up but I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Maybe ADKHighlander will find this thread and be able to give you an answer sooner than I can.

Thanks Dave for trying. Also I will like to know if you have separate channel level settings for different listening modes?, like Denon receivers have for their analog multichannel inputs, DD/DTS mode, each DSP modes, Stereo mode and Pure Direct mode.

Dave I'm glad you finally have a resolution albiet not the one you hoped for. I hope you have time to get it set up soon and start enjoying it.

I had to go into the manual because I don't use the multichannel imputs only HDMI. Also our friends at Integra have taken the manual for this off their site:rolleyes: but I did find a link ot the manual here.

There are no channel level settings for the multichannel inputs except the subwoofer input sensitivity (under hardware settings in the OSD). Other than that you set which input name the multichannel input uses (ie DVD) and that is it. This would also answer your second question about different listening modes. You can choose default modes for each input but no level adjustments. There is a chart on page 86 that gives the modes avaiable for the different Analog and PCM sources.

I got everything roughed in enough to check all the functions and make sure everything is working right. To answer you questions about channel levels, when playing an SACD, you do have access to on-the-fly channel level adjustment.

For the other listening modes, the DTC-9.8 is not as advanced as the Denon. IIRC about my Denon 2307, it will remember your on-the-fly levels for each source and sound field pretty much indefinitely. The Integra forgets all your on-the-fly adjustments each time you turn the unit off and resets all the levels back to zero. I haven't had time yet to fully investigate this feature since I got the system re-setup, but I did a quick check by changing a channel level then turning the unit off and the level was reset to zero. I'm pretty sure this is true of all modes. I'll check again when I have more time. I still have to clean up the wiring and return the rack to it's proper location.

Thanks,

I just finished day two of the re-installation. I have it wired and I checked all the sources and functions to make sure it's set up properly. So far so good. It's functional and I finally got to see the much Bally-Hoo'd DTS-HD MSTR display on the front panel. Yay, I'm bitstreaming HD Audio. It seems like a Pyrrhic victory after all the hassle, but it's all over now and it's working as it should.

What a mess of wiring back there. I've got my modem and wireless network in the rack as well as the SMS-1 and m/c analog SACD cables. I think I've got it tamed with liberal use of electrical tape, wire ties, cable sheaths, clips and a little trick I learned from Avaserfi. Tomorrow, I can clean up the loose ends and get the rack into place, but it's a heavy bugger.

Thanks to you Dave, and your partner.

You guys are right, Onkyo/Integra only have a common default channel level setup memory for all inputs and all listening modes. As for Denon which is much more elaborated, you have different settings for each listening mode which is called "Personal Memory Plus".
With Denon, if you altered the levels on the fly, they will remain store in memory, even after powering the receiver off. With Onkyo/Integra, they will revert to the original settings.
Ain't life sweet when you understand such little details but of considerable dimension as these.
Thanks again to put me on the right track.
