Hey, was just wondering but are there any resonably priced integrated amps that have optical inputs? I thought there was a Brytson but it was around 4k.

Thanks

You will find optical and coaxial on stereo receivers mostly instead of integrated amps. What are you trying to hook up? If it is a cd player or something you could always get an external DAC that way you are not limited to what integrated amp you buy. The Music Hall Mambo integrated has a pair of optical and coaxial and it's great.

Something wrong with the DAC in your player?
Maybe he wants to hook up his PC. Although there is a Music Hall Maverick sacd player on audiogon for a good price. Really want to pull the trigger as my pioneer isn't cutting it.

Probably sounds pretty dumb...but I want to be able to hook my PS3 up using optical(that is unless having video go to my tv through hdmi and audio through rca isn't a horrible idea).

Pretty much I have come to the conclusion that I will never end up going with a full surround set up and would be happier with two good front speakers instead. I figure it would be smarter to just get an integrated amp if I am going to go that route than a receiver in stereo mode.

Thanks for the help so far guys

The Mambo is a great unit and can be had for a lot less in the used market. If you want more power look at the Maven which is rated @ 100w. Only thing I was going to recommend is that if you are have SACDs and have a 60gb or 80gb PS3 you need to use HDMI or 2ch analog in order to have SACD playback work. Optical will not work with SACD on the PS3.

Ok another sorta dumb question...Alright, I have a 300 dollar gift certificate to a audio store that only carries NAD and Rotel. I was doing a search on the forum for threads about the Outlaw RR2150 and one user said it is possible to run a sub on integrated/stereo receivers that don't have sub inputs by plugging them into the preouts.

I take it I would plug the sub into one of the preouts and then use the crossover on the sub? Does this work just as well as using a unit that specifically has the sub input? And if so would the Rotel RX-1052 stereo receiver work well enough if I plan on staying 2.1 for the foreseeable future?

sorry for the stupid questions...

I think if you use the preout on that receiver for the sub it will bypass the speakers so you will get no sound other than the sub. If I am not mistaken you need to use either a preamp with amp or a receiver with actual sub out for that to work.

Get the NAD C720BEE instead as it has dedicated sub out.

Even the NAD C372 would work using the main inputs if I am not mistaken.
