Install questions for Denon AVR-3801

I'm running a Denon AVR-3801 Receiver. I'm running my DVD and HR10-250 (HDTivo) via component video in to the receiver (to the DVD and TV/DBS in) and I'm running optical audio to the optical in 1 and optical in 2 slots.

However, I was not able to get sound when viewing TV, unless I switched the cables for the DVD and the HR10-250.

Now I'm getting sound and video from my HR10-250 but I have to tune my receiver to DVD, even though I'm watching TV. And when I switch the Tuner to TV/DBS, I get my DVD picture but no audio. I've tried every possible option but I still can't get it the way it should be (DTV video and audio when tuned to TV/DBS and DVD video and audio when tuned to DVD).

What's going wrong here? I would really appreciate anyone who can help.

Sounds like you have a mismatch between digital audio assignments and the video they should go with. I don't have a Denon, but all the receivers I've seen are similar.

If you connect the optical audio out from your DVD into optical input 1 and have the video from the DVD going into the DVD input on the receiver, you need to tell the receiver that optical 1 maps to the DVD input. Same for the Tivo - plug its optical audio out into optical 2 in and then tell the receiver that optical 2 in maps to the TV/DBS input.

Check the menus for how to do this. It usually can be done from the front panel as well.

Hi,
I don't have a Tivo (wish I did) but I have a Denon5800/03 and a cable box which I have connected a digital cable (Can't remember which one) and designated it for dbs for digital channels and I've also attached a pair of L/R analog cables from the cable box to the analog inputs of DBS for the non Digital or analog channels.

Don't know if your using the Tivo as a tuner but if you are, this might help.
