i'm getting ready to purchase a pair of KLIPSCH LA SCALAS. i'm going to meet the guy who's selling them this weekend. the guy is also selling a YAMAHA MX 1000 power amp. he's currently pushing the speakers with this amp.

a bit about me. I just unloaded the following system which i was very happy with. a cheap yamaha receiver with pre outs and DTS/DOLBY DIGITAL (no zones), MONSTER POWER 2250 POWER AMP (2 channel 250watt class A/B amp), Klipsch KLF 30's (front towers pushed with the 2250 power amp), Klipsch RSW 15 (powered subwoofer), Klipsch RC-7 (center channel / receiver driven), Klipsch KSB 3.5 bookshelf speakers (rear channel / receiver driven)

i don't know how the above system compares with what most of you have, but i can honestly say it was a very LOUD and CLEAR sound. you might say i'm a bit spoiled.

the question i have is: HOW ARE THE LA SCALAS GOING TO PERFORM IN CONTRAST TO THE SYSTEM I USED TO HAVE? i understand that i'll be starting over as far as the surround sound factor goes, but can i expect the LASCALAS to move me the way my old system did?

La Scalas are pretty amazing. They are the smaller version of the legendary Klipschorns, designed so that they don't have to be in a corner. They have been around for decades, back to the era when 30 watts was a big amp. A friend had a pair among his assemblage of speakers (a collector) and I loved how they sounded. Somewhat "horney", they had what I can only describe as presence and ease (real scientific terms there). They are highly efficient and a powerful amp is almost idling when they get loud. I'd love to have 5 of them for a home theater. They have great bottom so you'd need no sub and you would be truly surrounded with sound.

Welcome aboard!!

For starters..... this is a great forum, and you'll find a ton of valuable information here.........

As a Klipsch owner and fan, I also suggest you ask the above question on the Klipsch forum. Depending on the vintage of your La Scalas, possible mods performed on them...etc, etc. etc..... A lot can go into answering your question, and there is no better place to ask La Scala questions than on the Klipsch forum. Needless to say..... you'll find a ton of La Scala owners over there!!

For everything else.... this forum is a great place to be:)

Are you doing a 2 channel system?
If you are using these for fronts, will there be issues with a lack of magnetic sheilding?
I ask as I tried using a pair of Altec Valencias as my fronts and they did some weird things to my television........
In a side note, I had purchased a pair of Altec Flamenco speaker badges for $25 bucks a few years ago to place on my Altecs......which came with home made grills and no badges........I never used them and just auctioned them off on Ebay...... for $105! Here is the Auction.....:D

Just curious, and feel free not to answer, but how much is the seller asking. (just to satisfy personal curiosity not sweep beneath you and take them, because I haven't the money for such delicious things.:D)

Also, which LASCALAS are they, the new ones or the ones from the 60's? I assume they are new, but again, to satisfy my curiosity.:D
