I may be able to get some SM-122s for fifty US. I wanted to know about the PolyCell drivers. Are they bright, mellow, colored. The midrange is PolyCell as well if I remember correctly. The speaker has a 12" woofer, 4" midrange, and a 1" tweeter. These speakers where made in the early 90's and they retailed for around $450 new.

I just want to know if they are work buying. Thanks for help in advance.

I have 4 Infinity speakers that use the Polycell drivers. I like them very much. They offer plenty of clarity, so expect the famous "west coast" sound. They are not tiring to my ears, like horn-loaded Klipsch type speakers (which I personally detest...sorry), but carry a medium-to-front stage top end. To me these are solid, well-designed speakers that are well worth that price (watch for condition).

I just got a pair of ACI bookshelves that include the famed VIFA ring tweeters. The Polycell hold their own against the VIFA sound...which is a bit more reserved. Depends upon your preference.

I've never seen a Polycell midrange...just tweeters.

I read on another forum that the SM-122s could reach 20hz.

Do you think I should buy them?, I can get them for $50. They appear to be in great condition.

For $50 I'd say it's a no-brainer. I wouldn't say the Poly-Cell is the model of transparent, extended treble but it's smooth-ish rather than shrill. The cabinets are basically unbraced and almost completely undamped, but you could easily change that. For the price I'd say "go for it." If you listen to mostly rock, at least.

I'm in total agreement. Go for it.
