Infinity Ward won't be doing next Modern Warfare?

Apparently, the two top guys at Infinity Ward left recently to work on a new project and as a result, it looks like the Modern Warfare franchise could be up for sale. It has already been rumored that the next installment would be coming from a different company, but this all but confirms it. From P:TOM.

Infinity Ward lost Studio founders Vince Zampella and Jason West a little over a month ago, and now they lose Lead Software Engineer Francesco Gigliotti and Lead Designer Todd Alderman things don't look good. I can see COD being put out by another Studio but there has been no official word yet.

They were already trying to separate themselves from the "COD" moniker with the Modern Warfare name. COD will continue on with Treyarch doing the next one (World at War) but the next installment of Modern Warfare is currently unsure. Activision has said there is something new in the works that may be a spinoff of the MW game and that may actually end up taking its place. The good news about that is that it will be done by Sledgehammer Games recently formed by former developers form the original Dead Space team.

That is good news, will Activision announce soon or will we have to wait till E3?

I expect they will keep it quiet for now. Infinity Ward is still doing the multiplayer maps for the 360 and the fact that the next installment of MW wouldn't be scheduled for at least 2yrs, with the next Treyarch COD coming next year.
