I'm planning on starting my DIY sub build this weekend and wanted to get an opinion on how my current sub (EMP 1010i - Dual 10s) will compare to my planned build (Ported Infinity 1262 DIY per http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/diy-corner-tips-techniques/78575-modeled-infinty-reference-1260w.html). The build of the 1262 is well within my price range and may even let me build two.

I'm not sure how to translate the reference graphs into an effective comparison between the two subs.

  1. Any ideas on what the relative performance of these two subs will be?
  2. Is there a good DIY build with a 15" sub in a similar price range (<$400)?

I didn't do a cost takeoff, but I suspect you could squeeze a Dayton RSS390 into the picture.

Anyone with inputs on question 1? I looked at the SPL graphs and see that the infinity is "better" and flatter in the low ranges, but I don't know what that means as a listener. Is the difference in the SPL graphs meaningful or not?

Here are the links to the response curves I found:
