Inexpensive/good sounding LCD/plasma speakers

I'm looking for a pair of those tall/thin passive/non-powered wall mount speakers to connect to the speaker-level outputs on my LCD TV. My TV's speakers are total crap. Any suggestions? I've seen several brands on eBay, such as Pioneer Elite, Hitachi and Fujistsu. This for a bedroom and I'd like to spend under $50, which eliminates possiblities such as soundbars and receiver based setups. Thanks!

You will most likely be looking at some kind of computer speakers and at $50 you aren't going to see much of an improvement over what you have as has already been said. Save a little more and get some decent speakers.

About your cheapest option is 3x your budget. Assuming a headphone jack, and that the jack's volume is controlled by the remote you could possibly get away with using Klipsch's $150 Promedia 2.1 computer speakers. They sell a small wall mount for the Promedia satellites.

You people don't understand. The tv speakers sound worse than a clock radio! I don't want bookshelf speakers. There are several options on ebay for around $50 on ebay by Pioneer, Fujitsu, Gateway, etc. I thought maybe someone here might have some experience with one of them. Do a search for "plasma speakers". They have separate tweeters/woofers and require very little power. I'm going to experiment with powering them from the wires going to the TV's internal speakers. Its not like I will be blasting them at concert level. I need to see what impedance the internal speakers are. Hopefully they are 8 ohms or under. I doubt the TV speakers are even in an enclosure inside the TV. Its possible that anything would be an improvement!

Respectfully, I think it's you who doesn't understand. A lot of those computer type speakers sound worse than clock radios!

So, there is a chance that you will make your setup look uglier, that you become $50 poorer, and yet have done nothing at all to make a significant improvement to your audio.

You have got to remember, sir, we are at Audioholics. We are most definitely not the type that prefers to listen through laptop speakers.

$50 is basically - you are looking for free speakers.
Good soundings speakers sell on ebay for $50 all day long. I happen to need a pair that are designed to be mounted and powered by a flat panel TV.

Why don't you be a sport, and link the ads? There are MANY posters here who would love to buy good sounding speakers for $50.

The last time I listened to a $50 pair of speakers were these, and they were TERRIBLE!!

I would look used - buy a cheap stereo receiver or amp and some cheap speakers. If you want better sound, using the amps in the TV (and damaging your TV in the process) isn't going to get you there. Voiding any warranty and possibly doing damage to your TV to add more crappy speakers that are going to be underpowered doesn't sound like a great idea.

I picked up an old receiver for $5 at a yard sale. Another time I bought an amp and the guy gave me some speakers free with it. Check craigslist.

Yes, they are designed like that with the tweeter on the bottom. Doesn't make much difference, they sound the same as the previous versions :p
