I have an antenna on my roof with an amp. I tried adding a spliter 1 going to my tv and 1 going to my receiver but had no luck. For some reason i could not even pick up one station. I tried some rabbit ears and got the same result. So far i have only gotten results from the single wire ant. The ones that you have shown would probably work fine but im looking for something small that might fit into my equip. cabinet. Any ideas why my rooftop ant. is not working?

Does it work if you plug the ant directly into your receiver without splitting it?

Another option is to take some left over speaker cable and use it. I had some 12 awg cable left over and I connected it to an RF adapter and plugged it into my receiver. Worked like a charm. I was originally trying to use a Terk amplified antenna and all I got was amplified static.

Did the TV still work? Was it a new splitter? The TV antenna shoild have given you at least 2x the reception of the monopole wire you are using. That first one should be about 2x better than what you have now, you can just toss it in the cabinet without worry.

The splitter was new and im not sure if the tv still worked. Let me tell you what ive got and how i had it connected. I have a 3020 Channel Master ant. with a Channel Master Spartan 3 pre amp. I had the cable coming out of the preamp that is mounted on the mast and ran to splitter. 1 went to the receiver and 1 went to the preamp amp then to the tv. Should I have ran the preamp amp first and then split it? Also, now that im thinking about it i think there was a fm swith on the preamp mounted to the mast. Do i need to flip this switch? If i do need to will that screw up my vhh/uhf reception? Let me know what you think because i dont want to have to climb back on that roof if I dont have to.:D

Your best bet is going to be to get rid of the preamp alltogether. It prob has a notch filter in it. I bet if you just bypass it, it all will work great.

The particular antenna I referred to from an earlier post is not a "standard" dipole like the one from Radio Shack. Try Googling for info on the FM Reflect antenna and you'll find it interesting.

"Many FM stations now broadcast their signal with circular polarization. The FM Reflect Antenna is the only FM antenna that can be adjusted to take advantage of this. It is not affected as much by surrounding objects and people as other FM antennas are."

"It's similar to a regular dipole antenna but very much improved. It's easy to attach to a receiver and mounts on the wall or in a window frame. We use a few of these at the KMUD offices." (from KMUD radio station in Humboldt County, California).

BTW, I hope you figure out receiving an FM signal through the existing rooftop antenna. They normally perform much better than any indoor antenna and any dipole antenna will do better than a monopole.

Yes, you would have to switch to FM at the antenna. Less interference at the TV when the FM band is excluded.

What kind of wire is off the antenna to the amp and from it inside the house? Antennas are usually 300 Ohm terminations. You may have an issue here.

Your receiver should have two terminals for FM antenna input, not one.

In your initial question you said AM/FM and referred to the wire probably means the FM antennae but you did say AM. The suggestions you received refer to the FM side of things and don't apply to the AM antenna connection.

For AM nothing beats a long hunk of wire strung between some insulators and then down to the receiver with another wire going to ground.

I would be interested in any AM suggestions others have as that is what I am researching. I get more FM stations then I can shake a stick at with any piece of wire I stick up but my AM reception is very poor.
