My wife and I are building a new house and I am struggling with the decision to put an in-wall/ceiling 7.1 system in the family room vs. a floor standing system. We both think it would give us extra space and be the best for our two young children. The sytem will be used for TV and movies first and music second. I am contemplating the following system:
Polk LC 265i for the LR and center
Polk LC 60i for the four rear speakers
Velodyne Minnvee 8" sub

I guess I just need reassurance that this sytem will give me decent results and not just waste my money since I could buy a decent floor standing system for the same price.
Thanks for your help:D

Onwall/Inwall speakers

Check out the on-wall speakers from Paradigm and Axiom audio. They might be a good comprimise of esthetics and performance. RBH sound also makes some good on-wall and in-wall models.

Keep in mind that the surround speakers are located on the sides of the listening position, and not in the back. For these channels, many manufacturers offer a bipole or dipole type speaker that will mount flush to the wall and will perform much better than a direct radiating inwall speaker.

For LFE bellow 30 Hz, you should also consider a 10" or 12" sub if it passes the WAF.

Be careful here, the Polk LC series are 4 ohm speakers. If you’re planning to power the speakers with a receiver, you should go to the TC series or something different. That said, the LCs are excellent speakers. I would also suggest you look at Def Tech as well. More than likely you will need a better sub. What is the volume size of your proposed space and are you looking for bombastic results?

Hello,
Room dimensions, room acoustical properties and listening habits determine the type and the brand of speaker system you should be installing in your new home. Please provide this information and we can give you accurate advice on system building. Anything less is throwing darts at a dartboard blindfolded ;)

Thanks for the replies

The room is 22 X 20 with a nine foot ceiling. The room is carpeted. I like to listen to movies/music loud but not LOUD. After doing some reading in this forum, I noticed that many people like RBH in-wal/in-ceiling speakers. What about this set-up?
RBH Center MC 413
RBH Left and Right MC 616
RBH Surrounds and Rears MC 815
RBH TS-12AP sub

I can get this set-up a little cheaper that the Polk. Again, thank you for your help.
