Was wondering a few opinions on the in wall market of speakers. I have done a bit of research and seem to be expanding my decisions instead of narrowing them. I am currently finishing the framing stage of the basement and will be wiring for the HT shortly. Due to a window placement I am forced to use ceiling surrounds for the 5.1 system. Wanted some opinions regarding Klipsch, BIC Acoustech, Infinity, Polk, and Boston Acoustics. Is there anything to stay away from? I would like to install something not top of the line but not cheap, wondered what I needed to budget.

Thanks in advance.

In wall speakers

Ceiling speakers for the surrounds should work OK. Get the type with the tweeter that can be "aimed" toward the listening position. The surrounds should be on the sides of the listening position, and consider running a couple extra wires to add rear surrounds in the future.

Also check out the inwalls from RBH sound, and consider the onwall speakers from Paradigm and Axiom.
One thing to keep in mind is that good inwalls tend to cost more than an equivalently performing bookshelf type speaker.

What will you be using for the front 3. You might add Def Techs to your list. I would scratch the BICs.

Avrat,

How do you like the Def Techs? Also where did you place the ceiling surrounds? I am assuming slightly behind the main listening area.

I love them, their sound quality is excellent. They take everything I throw at them with ease. Unfortunately, they are positioned where they should be for a 5.1 system (thanks to the builder’s installer) but still work well in my 7.1 setup. They are located 6’ to the side and 3.5’ back from the main listening position with my ceiling being 8’.
