In wall/ceiling speakers

I might be getting a house in the near future that requires a full kitchen remodel. I would like to install speakers in the kitchen, because I love cooking and music, and was wondering if anyone has had a good experience with any specific manufacturer.

It is not a critical listening situation, so they don't need to be the best, just looking for the best buy.

Any experience or advise would be appreciated!

Thanks

on the budget end of the selections, I have good experiences using the "Dayton" brand on in-wall speakers from www.partsexpress.com

In a kitchen area, the Mirage Omnican speakers will create a more open, full sound stage with their horizontal distribution cone if you decide on in-ceiling units.

don't know how much longer this sale will last

Good to hear the Dayton speakers are nice, I have been a customer of parts express for years. The Mirage speakers look nice as well, especially since I will most likely do in ceiling.

Thanks for the info! :)

I use Sonance Symphony as surrounds and SpeakerCrafts in my bedroom. They are both very good speakers.

Thanks for the feedback..... I appreciate the responses, I like buying a product that has been tried out by people who have similar quality standards... helps eliminate a lot of guess work!

+1 on the Sonances I use them for my surround duties as well.

Another to look at is Polk. I upgraded my single stereo speakers from Audiosource to Polk and there was a huge sound quality difference. I have also purchases Polks for my bedroom setup that I will be installing in the coming weeks.

Good to hear, I saw some decent prices on polk doing some searches.

Any instillation tips? it looks simple enough and I am pretty handy, but if there are any "pro installer tips" that would be great. :D

Are you installing in drywall? Do you have an attic above this space? How are you going to control the sources and volume for these speakers? (keypad, RF remote, Vol control) Are you using zone 2 from a receiver or its own receiver?

You should consider using Niles gear for bedroom control. Maybe a nice MSU140 and an IntelliPad.:D

It is in a plaster ceiling, first floor, so it will be in between joists... most likely will use RF to the receiver/components, using zone 2 on my yamaha rx-v640... and will most likely get the audiosource amp 100, or similar for power.

Or a MSU250.:eek::D Link
shameless sales pitch
LOL! The niles system is a little extreme for what I am wanting to do. If this all works out, the kitchen will be close to the living room where the home theater is.

This is all theoretical at this point. i am waiting to see if the house works out, but if it does, the remodeling will start right away.

I hope you get your house! I have no experiance with in ceiling speakers, but if the kitchen opens up to the HT, could you not just crank the volume in there, or would other family members be using that room? Maybe your dog watching "Animal Planet" :D

Yeah, I am keeping my fingers crossed on the house... I like the cranking it up idea, but that only works when the wife isn't home :) She appreciates a more "balanced" approach. That, and it doesn't open directly to it, it's kind of through the door and around the corner.
