I went ahead with the MTX (the one that has the enclosure built in). They were 60.00 each. Now i think i should have spent more in that area.

Now i am looking at the following manufacturers. Can somone please rate and tell me which one is good for movies and booms and just overall good sound.

1) JBL HTI8 x 3 front and JBL HTI6C x 2 Ceiling for rear
2) Niles UL833iLWL 8" Fronts and Niles UL6iWC 6-1/2" Center
3) Klipsch 5800-C Ceiling 8" and Klipsch 5800-W Center Channels x 3

If you don't know the models, which manufacturer makes better speakers between above?

Niles is dedicated to ceiling or in-wall speakers. Their high definition speakers are very good. I'd rank them ahead of the other two.
Klipsch makes good products but my experience with their ceiling speakers was at a dealer. They sounded detailed and good but not as good as the Niles. The Niles sounded more complete.
JBL ceiling speakers I have not heard. I'm sure they are decent for suround or rears but I'd have to hear them before I would consider them as mains.

Ceiling speakers are a different animal, so going to a dedicated manufacturer with a good product-line inproves your chances. Like Niles or Speakercraft. Also, don't forget about the installation. From my experience ... talk to them before installing, they have a lot of info that is not in the manual.

Cheers.

Attend a professional installer seminar at CEDIA and you'll find that ceiling speakers are not recommended except as a last resort. With film sound you are trying with the surround speakers to obtain a sense of envelopment in the sound field. This is not possible with ceiling speakers because they always always give away their position. Inwall speakers mounted 1.5 or 2 feet above your head can give a sense of envelopement. The type used is important.

Dipole inwalls mounted at 110 degrees from the center channel 0 degree baseline work best for 5.1 systems. Monopole inwalls mounted in the same 110 degree positions will always give away their presense. Therefore no sense of envelopement.

If you're doing a 6.1 or 7.1 all inwall system then you can use monopoles, rear mounted from about 150 to 165 degrees. Mounting a single monopole directly behind your head at 180 degrees again becomes very localizable.

can you recommend a monopole speaker?

I am sorry but some terms are new. You are right, i should attend. but the speakers i have in ceiling is the only option i can have, there is back wall , it's the kictchen. Recommend a good speaker that i can accomplish what you were telling me.
thanks a lot

We could use a bit more info. Can you supply a detailed top view with dimensions? Are you keeping the MTX's or returning? Will you be using a subwoofer?

One thing to point out with all inceiling/inwall speakers
most are not able to hit very high spl levels and most are horribly inefficent
If you have a larger room size the Klipsch would perform better and be able to reproduce the dynamics of complex movie sound tracks Niles are better suited for smaller rooms I have insalled them and the performance was very ho-hum IMOHO ;)

I have the Jamo sub D4sub and MTX speakers. I won't be able to

return the MTX. I like the Klipsche r-5800-w series, where do i buy them from?
i click on yahoo search for Klipsch 5800 and no dealer comes up. I want the ones with the copper look woofer in the middle.

and also r-5800-c for ceiling.

am i getting a good combo here? i noticed they have the 5650 and the 3800 series, so i figured the higher the better.
I also have a pioneer THX receiver.

Hi
They will be shipping in a week or two I was told by my Klipsch Rep today They are held up at the shipping docks here in Southern California these are the brand new reference speakers that are replacing the RCW-5 and RCR-5 and they will be stellar performers IT would be very hard to find a better
Inwall speaker that has no enclosure (back box)for Home Theater applications regardless of price these speakers excel in dynamics and high spl with little distortion these two things are needed for great Home Theater systems

Happy Listening

are you saying the new Klipsch will have built in enclosures?

my MTx's have built in enclosure right now so i don't have to worry about moisture, bugs, spiders, etc eating them.

also where can we buy them from (the new reference series)
