Hello guys,

First of all sorry if I posted in the wrong section.

So like the title says I'm planning on buying a surround sound system for my living room, so far I have 3 models I am looking at and since this is my first time investing in audio I would like a more experienced opinion.

I wouldn't get any of those.

The speakers are the most important, not the AVR. So you have to get good speakers first.

I would go with something like these:

Infinity Primus™ Theater 5-pack II Home theater speaker package at Crutchfield.com
+
Infinity PS28 (Black grille) Powered subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

or

Energy RC-Micro 5.1 Home theater speaker system at Crutchfield.com

or

Infinity TSS-1200 CHR 5.1 Channel Charcoal Total Solutions Series Speaker Package Charcoal Finish at Vanns.com

Then get the receiver separately.

Right now you can get this Pioneer 5.1 AVR for $140 (after the $90 instant coupon code):

Newegg.com - Pioneer VSX-521-K 5.1-Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver

AVR + Infinity 5-Pack + 8" sub = $640

AVR + Energy 5.1 = $540

AVR + Infinity 5.1 = $640

$300-400 is not realistic budget for decent 5.1.
You'd be better off with pair of solid pro monitors like LSR2325P (check my sig)

However if you insist on 5.1 system this one is the lowest I'd even consider.
