In the market for a new TV

Ok here is my thought process right now. Since this is the bedroom I don't need a 60"+ 4k screen with AVR+5.1+ speaker setup. What I do need is a 38"-42" along with a soundbar. I was thinking no more then about $800-$900 for both the TV and and sound bar. I am currently looking at Vizios M series TVs and going with their 43" along with one of their soundbars like the Vizio SB3851-C0 38-Inch 5.1 or SB4051-C0 40-Inch 5.1 for example. I was wondering if the current crop of televisions can output proper 5.1 from HDMI sourced hooked up to the Television over either HDMI or Toslink to the soundbar for things like my ps3 and Wii U.

Since this is the bedroom I do not need the HD audio formats just something that will work witht he likes of DTS and DD for playback of 5.1 from my gaming consoles and maybe a PC for movie playback.

My current television is a Panasonic 50" 720p Plasma from 2009 with the model number TC-P50X1 and need an upgrade for gaming since the Plasma has burn in issues.

This may not help with your setup. I switched away from expensive and unreliable TVs and went with an HD projector about 8 years ago. You can throw it small on a small wall or huge on a large one. Picture is crisp, the downside is that 120hz motion is not an option, but 720p or 1080p is easily. The Epson I bought as an upgrade a few months ago was around $600.

My brother in law has an 80" TV that looks no better than my cheap-o projection setup! I think he also spent about 14x as much! Admittedly a 79" 4K TV now runs a mere $4200 at Frys and it would be much sharper than my projector.

You have to use it with a cable box, and a darkened room is desirable but not 100% necessary.

Thomoz projection in the bedroom is not an option. Hence why I am not looking at 60"+ Televisions they are just not needed in a bedroom setting.

Basically what I am asking is will the Vizio M43-C1 output 5.1 from either the ARC or Digital Optical outputs to your own soundbars aka either the SB4051-C0 or SB3851-C0 from HDMI sources plugged into the Television? AKA will the television passthrough audio from its HDMI inputs to either HDMI-ARC or Optical output when connected to any 5.1 speaker setup?
