I am taking delivery on my new Yamaha Rx-v2600 and Mitsubishi RP-LCD on Friday and in need of advice on what type (not brand) of cables to buy. I will also be using the Scientific Atlantic 8300hd cable box (Cox cable). I want to run everything through the receiver, but have read that the 2600 and cable box are incompatible through HDMI. I really wanted to just run everything with HDMI cables.

If I use component video cables can the receiver still upscale everthing to 720P? I am reading the manual and I just can't figure this out. I am coming from a very simple set up that was just using old rca cables.

I want to get the best picture and sound possible from any source.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I am freaking out with all of this new terminology & technology...

I would at least try using HDMI at first. There might've been a firmware update on one party's part. If you can't use HDMI, then use component video and either coax or optical audio from the Satellite receiver. I believe the Yamaha will upconvert to HDMI, so you can use an HDMI cable to your TV.

Thank you jaxvon. I am very new to all of this. I just didn't want to spend a lot of money on hdmi cable's if it wasn't going to work.

BTW, I watched all of your comments and bought the B.I.C. center speaker. Even with my powerless crappy old jvc, the thing sounds pretty good. I can't wait to get all of this stuff hooked up with the Yamaha. I have a pair of Paradigm 7SE fronts that I am going to combine with it. I hope it all matches up OK. I definitely don't have a great ear, so I am thinking it will turn out alright.

We all were at one time:D You are here, learning. Maybe you want to consider modifying your moniker? You are too hard on yourself;)
