I am about to the point of going crazy reseaching all this stuff... I would like opinions on some good quality and sounding in-ceiling speakers that cost between $150 & $200 a pair. I will be running the Yamaha RX-V2500 reciever.

Thanks

Hello
My advice is to forget the RVX-2500 drop down to the RXV-1500 or lower and put more money toward a decent in-ceiling speaker if this is your only option
Please keep in mind that in-ceiling speaker should be used only as a last resort Many times their are alternatives that sound better regardless of your
Installation criteria
$150-200 per pair for speakers in-ceiling or not and good quality do not go hand in hand ;)

My A/V guy can get me the RX-V2500 for $769......Would you still go with the 1500? What Inceiling would you recommend if I didn't have a choice but to spend 150 to 200 on speakers?

At that price go with the 2500.

Do you have F/L & center (brand?) that you will be using or will the in-ceilings comprise your system. 5 or 7.1? How big is your space?

Some possibilities:

polkaudio.com
With pivoting tweeter for some imaging
RC60i......$180
RC80i......$250

Local dealer
Paradigm CS60R........~$200 (Own 'em, love 'em)

That's kinda what I was thinking on the 2500 receiver. I don't have a brand picked out yet for the in-ceilings....It is a large open space 29' x 29'; we have a totally open plan and the room includes the kitchen and living area with an island seperating. The set up will be essentially a 5.1, because the two speakers in the kitchen will have be setup for dialog incase someone is in there watching tv.

Hello
I respectfully dissagree Mating an RX-V2500 with a $200 pair of speakers makes no sense
My advice would be to drop down to a lower model receiver and use the additional cash to aquire
better speakers ;)

Unfortunately, compromises have to be made especially when a tight budget is involved. And the person with the money makes the final decision.

I guess the receiver selection would depend on what the 1500 could be purchased for. Another option that might work is the Pioneer VSX-1015TX for about $500. I agree, there needs to be a good balance between speaker and receiver. Price and quality are not always well correlated however.

I need to clarify my previous question. Will you be using in-room (floorstanding or bookshelf) speakers for your F/L & center speakers? Or are you planning to use in-ceilings for the entire system? Can the budget be adjusted if you can save some money on the receiver. What would you say is the budget for 7 speakers and receiver?

The whole system will be in-ceiling speakers except for the sub. The budget for 9 speakers (7 inside & 2 on back porch) and receiver is about $1500 bucks. This does not include the sub; unfortunatly that will have to come later. What do you think?

The A/V guy doing my pre-wire wants me to use Tru Audio LC-6 speakers with my system. He says that they sound amazing. The guy that started this company was once an installer and he decided to make a quality speaker at a quality price??????????? I couldn't tell ya...

CS60R - recomendation

I'm thinking about purchasing CS60R speakers for my ceiling. In the family room, can I use all five of my ceiling speakers with CS60R? Or does the middle one need to be different? Any issues with this product?

If you are talking about a 5.1 HT setup, then I would not recommend the Paradigm CS-R60s. They are direct firing, which in a ceiling means they project sound straight down. Not good for front theater imaging. In-walls for the front soundstage would work better. If this is not an option, then in-ceilings with some sort of aimability option would be preferred. My first recommendation, for people with lower budgets, are the Polks I’ve previously mentioned. They are excellent bang/buck, on par with the Paradigms.
