I've got friend who has a large WAF problem. Accordingly, he's decided to put in 5 ceiling speakers for his room. Is it possible to do this? I picture ambient sound at low volumes and a bloody mess if the volume is turned up. Note that this will be a less than audiofile setup. Any comments are appreciated. - Bob

Not a problem for the surrounds, but not a good idea for the mains - imaging will almost totally be lost. Getting them into the front wall would be better (lesser of two evils). Maybe he could get some decent looking on-wall speakers for the fronts?

Thanks for the reply. Those were my thoughts exactly. He went ahead and had five holes cut in his ceiling. Don't you wonder why freinds who know you're into tweaky stuff don't ask till it's too late? I have another friend who bought a HTIB and then called me up to hook it up for him. I could have set him up rather nicely for a few more bucks...... - Bob

That's why I'm divorced.... She said "You'll be fine, you'll always have your music." True.... Now if you know a lady who can live with a wall of CD's and acoustic paneling......:D

i'm in a similar situation, though not as bad as your friend. my wife doesn't really care what i do with respect to speakers and within reason. however, my room is designed such that there is no place to put the surround side speakers. so, i have to put those 2 in the ceiling. the front 3 speakers and the 2 surround back speakers, however, will not be recessed. i get to use floor-standings for my front and bookshelves for my rears. it is a bit of a mutt-like mix of speakers. boston VR3 mains, polk CSi5 center, speakercraft AIM in-ceiling for the surround sides and not sure for the surround backs yet (maybe my polk fxi5's or my older boston HD10 very large bookshelves.
