In a dilemma on how to set up my system.

I recently got the EMP Impression 5.1 package from the audioholics store. I also got a 1910 Denon reciever.

I am currently running speaker wires from the A channel on the reciever to the sub, then from the sub running speaker wires to the two tower speakers. The seems to be a lot of the low range lacking. I have played around with the Denon receiver and noticed that it has an internal cross-over set for 80 Hz, so that made me think there may not be much lower end going to the sub.

My problem:
The back of my sub is:

The back of my reciever is:

The sub requires left and right RCA ports while the reciever has one subwoofer/pre-out port.

How would you guys connect the sub to the reciever? My only other thought is there is a DVR audio out with left and right RCA's.

and if I hook the sub up to the receiver via RCA cables, shoudl I not have the speaker wires running through it too? Since one says low level in, and the other says high level on the back of the sub.

I know this is a simple question, and I would have tested out the sounds, but I do not want to hurt any of the components.

PS, is it better to cross-over using the receiver, or the sub?

Thank you,

Chris

You just need to connect the LFE out to the left RCA in of the sub, with an RCA cable. The sub will sort it out. Set the Denon crossover around 80 and set the sub crossover as high as possible, so the crossovers don't stack.

Connect your mains to the receiver, do not go via the sub.

By LFE you mean the "Subwoofer/Pre out" RCA port on the reciever?

Thanks a lot for your help, I will change the wire configuration after work today.

The sub has a FIXED high pass for the speaker level outs, meaning the crossover adjustment on the sub does not affect them; it only affects the sub itself. That's why you were missing so much sound.

does that mean I should leave the two towers running though the sub still and connect the Sub to teh reciever with the RCA cable as well? or should I rewire the towers to the receiver only.

No wire the towers to the receiver. Just follow my advice and you will be fine.

All right,

Why do they have the speaker wire ports in the back of the sub? is it something to do with if the receiver doesn't have cross over?

Thanks again.

A lot don't any longer. You are correct, it is a poor system to use if you don't have a crossover in the preamp.

I got an RCA cable from monoprice, and hooked it up as you said TLS guy, and it sounds much better. Thank you again for your help.
