Important to buy from Authorized Dealer?

I've been looking at the Denon 2805, which I'm pretty set on, but I'm wondering...

How important is it to buy from an authorized dealer?

ALL of the authorized dealers listed on the Denon website are selling new 2805's for around $900. I can't afford that. So I was looking at referbished ones, and the cheapest I can find is $589 + tax and shipping. I was looking at the product warranties on the Denon site, and a referbished item is only warrantied for 90 days. I can find a new one shipped for $600 or so. Is it really worth the 90 days of warranty to get a referb, when I could by a brand new for the same price?

How often to people have problems with receivers such that they actually use the warranty?

Thanks for the insight!

I live in Austin, TX, and travel fairly often to family in San Antonio and Houston.

Sometimes those internet $600 deals are actually returns or demos. The 90 day warranty is very important (as opposed to none). That's usually the time the unit tanks out on you. An unauthorized dealer is exactly that. One the manufacturer doesn't trust enough to call him authorized. The manufacturer who sells refurbs to authorized dealers and sells them at a discount knows these units have been tested over and over. They'll replace everything and anything that is in question, so a refurb should work as good as new, with any bugs worked out - assuming the factory did the work. In Denon's case, they do the work. So does Harman Kardon. You don't get better customer service than those guys.

Go with a refurb

I'd rather buy a refurb than a receiver from a non authorized dealer with no warrany. On the refurb check Dakmart for the 2805. Their prices are a bit higher than the other authorized refurb dealers but it comes with a one year factory warranty. Most problems arise immediately so 90 days may be enough for most units.

I would go to the local dealers and make them an offer. You can get at least 10% off in my area (Boston) with little trouble. You have nothing to lose by trying.
