Impedance & Speaker compatibility

Hi Folks.

I have had a little trawl around and suspect I know the answer to the question I am abo[/CENTER]ut to ask, but will go ahead anyway and likely suffer the flames associated with n00b questions :)

I'm in the States and have brought with me an ageing Sony DAV S550

complete with original speakers.

I have recently acquired a Sony DAV-DZ170

The latter unit came without a set of speakers, so I am pondering the use of my existing speaker set from the 550. The prognosis isn't great:

The amp on the newer system appears to be capable of much more grunt, and there's a small impedance difference on the speakers...

I seek your council: what are the risks of using the 550 speaker set with the DAV-DZ170.

Thanks chaps

Caveats: I'm aware the speaker cable connectors are different. This is for casual watching only; quality is not much of an issue. I'm more interested in safety/potential for blowing up amps etc.

Do you have the six different color speaker connectors and wire that comes with the DAV-DZ170 ?
Without those you may be SOL.

Consider also that I doubt many of us have any ideas about the impedance requirements of the the driver units or of the speakers themselves. That makes an answer somewhat difficult.

Understood. I had originally put links into my post however the system restricts me from posting direct links - the specs are as follows.

the 550 speakers that I have are

80+80W 4Ohms at 1khz
SUb 100W at 3ohms at 100khz

The specs for the new system are

167 watts per channel at 3ohms (front L R)

Sub is 165 w at 3ohms

Yes I purchased some after market ones. NO problems with connectivity.

It will work fine.
The original DAV-DZ170 has color coded connectors that are also marked for polarity.
If you have the connectivity worked out, go right ahead and enjoy.

My concern was that the new system would appear to have twice the amount of grunt and I don't want to blow the speakers :)
