Impedance matching and power output questoin

I have a set of your MK 750 system speakers, including an additional two surround-550 THX and second V1250 subwoofer for 7.1 surround capabilities (the subs are terminated on a single output from the receiver via Monster “Y” adapter).

Until recently, I was using a Sony STR-DA5300ES receiver to drive the speakers (since 2007). However the receiver popped its front channel circuit board (driving the L/R channel), also causing the RF speaker to pop its capacitors. Sony replaced the receiver with a new STR-DA5600ES receiver, and I had the speaker repaired.

Before I hook things back up, I want to ensure that I am not overdriving the speakers (leading to failure again). The receiver has been set to 4 ohm output, to match the speaker impedance. However, when I perform the “auto-calibration”, it sets all of the speakers to “Large”. As I understand it, this means that lower frequencies are sent to the satellite speakers, instead of sending to the subwoofers.

My questions are; should the speakers be set to “large” or “small”, and what should the crossover frequency be set at for each speaker type in the system?

Also, any other general advice you can give me to prevent another ‘blow out’ would be greatly appreciated. I have included the receiver specifications below. Thank you in advance for your help.

What do you mean "your MK 750 system speakers?"

What are your speakers and what are their specifications? As a general rule, set them to small and a good starting point for the crossover would be 1.5-2x their F3.

The speakers are Miller-Kreisel 750 series (MK SoundSystem). This is a 5.1 matched set that I have expanded to 7.1 (two subs).

What is F3?
