Gene,
I'm glad you continue to review real world products.
I just became a DirecTV customer and received an R10 dual tuner DVR as part of the package. The DVR comes with a low cost S-Video cable and equally low cost stereo audio cable.
I want to connect the video with a better quality S-video cable and use the toslink output from the DVR to connect the audio to my receiver.
After looking through our local B&M stores I found the cheapest options were the combo S-Video/Toslink packages as you reviewed. One package from Monster cost $75 (SV2FO2M ) for a 2M set, the other from Acoustic Research cost $38 (AP067) for a 6ft set.
Given the DVR has a $99 retail value it did not seem appropriate to spend much on cables. I chose the ARs as they were better priced and looked to be made and shielded just as well as the Monster set. However after serching the Internet it appears these same cables can be had for nearly half the price, even including shipping. So now I am considering the Velocity set from Impact Acoustics after your favorable review.
I know it would be impossible for you to rate every cable on the market vs. another, however I was wondering if you had any thoughts on how Impact Acoustics compares to Acoustic Reaserch in as a brand in general.
Thanks
