I'm toying with this idea

I am toying with the idea of selling my beloved Ascend Sierra 2's. I bought the RBH towers and have done a lot of a/b comparing. The RBH have won out and will stay in my Main system. Hard to do an apples to apples test but I did it by using the Rythmik sub with the Sierra's. In any case, I have always had trouble selling something and then regretting it later on. Now if I didn't like them, that would be OK. But I really like these. Should I just hold on to them? Just looking for thoughts. I have also ended up not needing the sub with the towers but that's an easy decision. The sub stays just in case.
Ugh....

Hi. I haven't heard either speaker. Do you mind giving us an idea of what tipped the balance toward the RBH towers?

I truly liked every speaker and subwoofer I've sold as well.

But it comes down to what I personally liked more. And only I can determine that.

And only you can determine that. It's not black and white. It's not something you can measure or weigh.

The question is, what are you planning to replace the Ascend with? :D

IMO, if the new SX-6300/R towers give you exactly what you want, including kick-butt bass, there is no reason to own a subwoofer just because many people own a subwoofer. ;)

The reason to own a subwoofer is if you are not completely happy with the bass or sound in your system.

For me, it always comes down to:

1) Space (I have a house on the smaller side, so that is a concern for me)
2) What other toys do I want MORE (I do have other hobbies, and I do sometimes like to clear out space and get $ to spend on those hobbies or something different/needed for the AV realm)
3) How often do I use it (If I haven't used it in 2 months, then it's probably time to consider selling it).
4) How easy is it to replace (If a piece of gear is worth keeping but is no longer available new, then that could sway my decision)

Ultimately, only you can answer those questions. Probably keep them for a little while and see if you naturally go back to listen to them. If yes, then they are probably worth keeping. If not, then probably time to sell.

Aren't they in your bedroom? If you don't have anything to replace them with, just keep em :) Or use them in your office or whatever.

That's where they were they were going to go after the A/B testing. I never really use the bedroom system. I'm thinking of selling that whole system off.

To me. A completely different experience. The Ascends upper end is a touch more clear but the overall sound with the tower is much more full and balanced. Even when using a sub with the Ascend's. It may not be better but the RBH is what I was after and like more. Both are wonderful but the RBH just seems to give me that huge sound I was seeking. I've also never had a tower which has such good bass that I didn't need a sub. The RBH have no need for a sub...OMG Sound I tell ya!

If you decide to sell the S2...you'll quickly find a buyer. One thing I've noticed over the years even before I bought the Ascends was how well they're regarded within the AV forum community & how quickly they re-sell. You'll make the new owner a very happy purchaser...especially if you save him a few bucks because of already being already used status.

Fwiw...I've always preferred the sound of a tower vs. that of a monitor...with or w/o a sub....just a personal thing.

Enjoy those RBH...:)

Yeah, sell the Ascend and Rythmik. :D

If you ever need more bass, which doesn't seem like it, just actively bi-amp the SX-6300/R via LFE/amp.

Maybe.. Ha... ATI and RBH Rock!!!! And you showed me the light away from the E brand.:)
There is a huge similarity between ATI & RBH.

Both have been around for like 30 years. Both are made in the USA (RBH is Utah, ATI is California). And both manufacture components as OEM for other companies!

We know that ATI makes amps for the likes of Mark Levinson, Lexicon, JBL Synthesis, Cary Audio, etc.

And RBH used to make OEM speakers for other companies (McIntosh, Fosgate, Parasound and JBL). Of course, that has changed today. But interesting how RBH used to make in-wall, in-ceiling, and outdoor speakers for Parasound, your other favorite company. :D

What is their value now? If you don't HAVE to sell them the I suggest you keep them. You never know when you may need them again. Plus an enthusiast can never have too many speakers :D

I've sold to many things that I should have just kept. In a couple of instances I've had to buy again something that I sold because I needed for a second system.

Have no idea on that. They are 1448 new. They are only three months old with maybe 50 hours on them. It would be a tough sell but I know the money would go towards more gear.

I would normally reach out via PM, but I'm new to the Audioholic's forum and that option is not currently available. Therefore, I'll express an interest in the thread.

I've been considering purchasing both the SX-6300/R and Sierra 2 and if you do decide to sell the Sierra's, I would be interested in speaking with you. Please feel free to touch base via PM. Thanks.

So are the Ascends sold yet? :D
No. I haven't had time to list them. I sent a couple of PM's out to members who had interest in them but they wanted a different color. They will be going up in the next few days..

Oh gods, I hate selling stuff. I am so longing for the day when my last 4 items are sold. Then I will never sell again or buy anything else again. Fingers crossed. :D
