Crutchfield is coming to Canada!!! https://www.crutchfield.com/S-srs7cX0NOOV/app/secure/signup/CanadaSubscribe.aspx

If they come up here and don't have a two-tiered selling system they will force our big chain stores to price reasonably. Prices might fall into line with what our neighbours to the south pay. I know I'll look to them first when they get here. Finally, a big, reputable internet seller in Canada. I really hope this works out for Crutchfield. I signed up for the newsletter (only other newsletter I get is from the organization AH is affiliated with, forget the name, but I like it.

P.S. Sorry about posting it here, but I figured this might be the best spot. Doesn't seem right for the steam vebt.

unfortunatly crutchfield sells most of its stuff at MSRP, so you rarely get any great deals from them.

Yup, I agree. There are better deals out there then Crutchfield.

I haven't compared Crutchfield on the HT side but on the car stereo and car accessories, they do a terrific job. Great assortment and lots of info for the DIY. This is very timely for me. Can't wait.

Even on the car side, Crutchfield is way too expensive. You pay close to double at Crutchfield.

Crutchfield sells mostly at MSRP but they have excellent service and they provide you with everything you could possibly need to get the job done, from labels to step by step instructions for your specific needs. I bought a car stereo from them. It was the best deal I could find from a reputable dealer. They sent me all of the adapters I needed to make it work with my car along with all the instructions for installation. Think of Crutchfield as the "local mom & pop A/V store of the internet. :)

I know that there are cheaper etailers out there, but Crutchfield often has pretty good sales. Also if they can get some prices closer to the US MSRP then I'll still be happy.

If you guys want some giggles take a look on the web and look up some of the prices we pay for brands like Onkyo, Klipsch, Denon, Sony (much of the time) and the biggest offender: Harman Audio incl JBL, Infinity, and Harman Kardon.

There is no competition in Canada. We have two box stores like your Circuit City and Best Buy. The difference is they are owned by the same company and they price fix.

I'm sick of looking at price tags that are often 3 times the cost of what you guys pay in the US. I'm hoping other companies tap the electronics market up here and that we can get a little relief from the royal screwing we take.

It all depends on what you are looking for. Future Shop (owned by Best Buy) has become a clearance house for BB. If you know what you want, checking out the weekly flyers can reveal some really good deals, prices comparable to US pricing.
Availability is often the biggest problem. Try finding OTA digital gear, antennas, digital tuners etc. Try finding a TIVO unit, a standalone HD PVR etc. Most gear take 6-12 months to arrive in the stores.
Top quality items like higher end AV receivers are only found in specialty stores. Bay Bloor Radio in Toronto, East Hamilton Radio etc. Wait for their sales.
Online, you can access Etronics, Smarthome and other US sellers that give good service to Canada. Especially if you have a US destination ie relative or box service, you can save big on border costs.
What I'm trying to say is, sometimes Canadians can find better prices at home already.
