Hey,
I'm in the process of turning my basement into a theater room ( I hope with your guys help). The size of the room is 13x16x9 small I know but it all I have to work with. Here is what equipment is on my mind.
onkyo tx806
sony bdp 5350 blu ray
polk mon 70 front
polk mon 40 back
polk cs2 center
polk dsw pro 500 sub
What do you guys think? good or bad, I really don't have a clue. I'm not to sure about the screen and projector yet. What do you guys think? I would like to stay around 1k-3k on projector price If I could and I would like a fixed screen just don't know how big I should go. What is a good size per this room. Oh I have 4 berkline chairs with butt kicker in them that will be in the back of the room. Oh yea one more thing which is better to put the screen on the 13' wall or the 16' wall. I need all the help I can get good or bad.
Thanks for your support.

Welcome to the forum Rdking. How much is your budget for speakers and AVR? I see you want to spend 1k to 3k on a projector....

I have a onkyo txsr806 that a friend can get me for around 500.00 I have heard this unit at best buy and it does all I need I guess. the price there was 1100.00.
I also liked the polks .I have had polks back in my head banging years.
So I guess I will spend around 2k on speakers for the complete set.

You might want to look at some SVS sub offerings.

For a 3k receiver/speaker budget, I would apply $600 to the receiver, and $2400 to the speakers.

IMO, the Denon 2808CI is the best $600 option at the moment.

If you like them. ;) Me? I picked NHT over Polk when I bought my speakers 10 years ago, so I agree. Some people prefer Polk, though.

So, to the OP, auditioning the speakers is an important aspect of this. Do it at stores, or do it at home. If you are already set on buying the Polks, then that's less work for you to do. :)

Note to the OP. Adam chose NHT ten years ago, and as you can see by his sig, he still employs them. That says alot.

I use a NHT 12" powered sub. It's a good $600 sub.

Note to the OP. Adam is lazier than dirt, and still has a lot of stuff that he doesn't like. :)

Jokes aside, I really like my NHTs. My point was just that not everyone likes NHT better than Polk. They are, however, a great suggestion for a brand to check out if you are auditioning. Thanks, Zumbo.

You are one of the very few members that will read someones manual before making a well informed recommendation. I would say you are far from lazy.

Agreed Adam is quick on the Manual draw...:D thats not lazy..Hanging out on a weekend night and Still not going to meet a woman is lazy:eek::D:D:D sorry bro I am just busting You da man...:D As for Polks I had a set of Monitor 50's that I sold immediately after hearing a set of Mirage speakers. Which was really my first outing into "hi end" audio.. There are MANY speakers in your price range that would smoke Polks....Its time to audition...

Thanks, fellas. Very kind of you! My apologies to the OP for the thread derailment. Truth be told, though, it happens all of the time. :D

Laziness? Hmmm. I think it's more fear. Oh, wait. I can spin it better than that. Let's try again:

Laziness? Nope. It's my eternal dedication to the A/V world and the members/guests on this forum.

Yeah, that sounds better...or maybe even more pathetic. :)

Ascend Acoustics (SALE) CMT-340 SE/ CMT-340C SE/HTM-200 SE plus stands, runs about $1218 right now. That leaves enough for an AV123 MFW-15 or Epik Knight/Caliber.
