I'm lost with a new Yamaha 363

Hey guys I work at Best Buy but not in home theater and cannot figure what to do with my samsung blu-ray player which only has optical and my reciever has digital coax and the two opticals that it has are for dtv and a cd player. How do I hook up my dvd player for 5.1 then? I'm lost, if I can't hook it up to a car I cannot figure it out. HDMI carries sound but not suround or am I wrong on this? Or should I return one the components and get something else? I don't have a lot of money and its actually my parents setup that I got them early for Christmas. Thanks

You've got no worries at all. We'll get you all set up.

The 363 won't process audio over HDMI - it will only pass it out through the HDMI output. So, you're thinking the right way in that you'll want to connect one of the other digital audio connections.

You can reassign which component uses which audio input. It's explained on page 48 of the owner's manual for the 363. So, you can assign one of the optical inputs to the Blu-ray player - no problem.
