Hey everyone my name is Shawn I've had a home system for a long time and have always had a hard time running speakers ive never joind a forum witch i shoukd have done along time ago I have no idea what certain seetings help and make things worse I'm sure I'm like everyone who has a prob with people talking and it being very low I've had Bose, Polk audio, now I have klipsch towers center and book shelf with a validine sub and Yamaha rec. I have the calibration speaker but I always end up messing with settings after I do the setup anyways I've downloded the spl meter to my phone to cheap to by the real metter but I don't know if that would help with sound from the center also my rears seam to have very little sound and I have them higher then the other speakers, so my questions would involve center eq, life settings, trebble, bass and crossover on the amp or if there's any other setting that would help the over all sound I like to hear the spit in there mouths and foot steps and I don't get that and I feel I should. With the speakers and amp I have thank you.

Does the Yamaha have auto setup? If yes, have you run it?

It has the calibration mike and yeah I end up messing with the settings after. it always put my cross over to 120 but I've read in places to put it at 80hz and all speakers to small

Can you list model numbers?

80hz is probably a decent place for crossover. How high do you have the output knob set to on your sub when you run the auto setup?

I always bump up my center channel a few db higher than my front l/r because that's where the dialog comes from.

What do you mean when you say you've got the rears higher than the others? If you want to post pics of the setup, we could see if there's any issues with placement or acoustics.

You've come to the right place for help!

I can't figure out how to post a pic its not a very big room I have my TV in the corner with the center under in and towers next to it and the sub behind the TV and my nook shelf to the right and left of me my couch is prob 4 feet from the wall because of the way I have the room set up but I've being in 2)3 did locations and I've always had a prob with the center my speakers are bookshelf kb-15, kc-25 center, kf-26 floor fronts and Yamaha rx -v563 90w per channel 7.1 but I don't run the 7.1 I use optical because I have a 3D TV and my rec isn't comparable but I don't notice any difference when I hook up HDMI for audio

One thing you can do is, rerun auto setup and note the setting values before you make any changes. This way, if you feel things are not right, at least you can put them back to your starting point.

I think the key here is to read the manual and understand which setting controls the center channel level and speaker/sub crossover. Once you are sure how to go about this, don't change anything other than those exact settings.

When I do the setup it says to turn the sub nob on the back all the way up is it best to do that and turn the sub down and control it from the rec and when I do do the setup it puts my frnts to large and crossover to 120 should I just leave it there since its saying its compatable when a lot of people say to put all speakers to small and crossover to 80hz my prob with the manual is I don't know what a lot of it means my rec has so many settings in it and it doesn't give a real descriptive meaning of anything

The sub will have 2 knobs, one called "Gain" and the other "Crossover". Make sure the Crossover is the one turned all the way up. For Gain, set it about half way between the min and max positions.

For settings, put all speakers to "Small" and set the crossover at 80Hz. This configuration is a good starting point from which to fine tune.

Can you confirm the model number of the Yamaha? I am not able to find a RX-V563.

I must have been doing something wrong. Today the 563's Owners Manual PDF came up in one search, first link too! DOH!

Anyhoo... Speaker level adjustment and crossover adjustment are on Pg 65.

I'm not certain what that setting does, but try it and see if you like it.

Now that we've got you you pointed in the right direction, the rest is going to be personal preference. Play with the different settings to see what sounds best to you. When I first got my speakers set up, my girlfriend was mad at me because I was constantly pulling up the menu and bumping a setting on at a time until I dialed in my preferences.. This went on for a few days and every once in a while I decide to see if I need to change something and start bumping the settings again

my dynamic range is at Max should it be at min to get more voice the background
What Dynamic Range setting does is, it affects the difference in volume between the loudest and softest sounds. When set to Max, the difference will be based on the audio being played (maximum allowed by source and recording). When set at Mid or Min, the receiver applies processing to make loud sounds softer and soft sounds louder.

Putting the Dynamic Range to Mid or Min will definitely make it seem like the vocals are louder. That said, you will reduce the potential for high quality audio playback in all instances. So, you may loose the impact of some audio tracks (like when something suddenly happens in a quiet movie scene). Consequently, it is preferable to leave Dynamic Range at Max.

A better way to get more vocals is your original idea, to increase the Center Channel level to your liking.
