I'm getting a POP when powering on

Why do I get a POP when I power on my system? I have a Monster AVS 2000 and a HTPS 7000 conditioner. They are set up to delay all the componets at power up. Once I hit the power button on the HTPS 7000 I get a big POP through the speakers. I think I read somewhere to make sure the Pre amp turns on last? Is this correct? My pre is a Sunfire Grand III. My amps power up with the AVS 2000 so they are on before the HTPS conditioner is powered up. I have 3 beringer feedback destroyers that seem to be the problem. Once everything is powered up and I turn them on and off I still get a pop but not near as bad as the initial power up. I basically have 2 proton D1200 runing front and rear speakers each with it's own beringer. The 3rd beringer is equalizing both my subs each on their own channel. How do I get rid of this POP?

Power up sequence.

I think you need to power up your pre-amp first, then the amplifiers. Right now the noise on your pre-amp durring startup is being sent to the amps and to the speakers. If the amps are designed properly, you should be able to leave the pre-amp on and turn the amps on and off without sending any noise or pops to the speakers.

I run 3 amps in my HT setup. One for the fronts, one for the surround, and the last for the surround back. When I turn on the amp for my 3 fronts I always get a pop, regardless of the order I turn my equipment on. Never anything for the surrounds.

I talked with tech support from the manufacturer of the amps and he said it's normal, nothing to worry about. Unless it is a really loud pop. For now I am going to let it go.

Unless of course someone can tell me otherwise and how I can fix it.

I don't like that at all, that an amp would pop just by turning it on? What amp is it? This happens if you only turn on those front amps, first and nothing else? The outputs are usually muted until after turn on to prevent this pop. While it may not damage the speakers, it is annoying and unusual. What is not unusual is if you turn something on after the amp is on.

Anthem MC30 for Front Left, Right, and Centre. The Anthem MC20's are quiet. It does not matter if I turn the receiver on first, or the amp. I can live with it. I've learned my lesson. Being "nit picky" can lead to more problems. The Anthem tech guy said it was nothing to worry about.

You mean to get a pop when you turn the receiver on _AFTER_ the amp?

I cut my receiver/pre-pro on first. Then my amp(triggered by receiver/pre-pro). Then my dvr. Then my tv.

If not this order, there is a pop. Receiver/pre-pro is first on, and first off.(for me)

There was no pop before I added the amp. So I just chalked mine up as the juice is ready to cut loose.(amp)

No, that you get the the pop when you just turn on that amp only, nothing else and still pops.
Try an experiment or two: unhook the amp inputs, leave the speaker connected and turn it on. Does it pop? It shouldn't. Your other doesn't.
If it pops, I think most good amps have a built in time delay before the output stage is energize to eliminate this sort of issues, most likely the caps inrush current. It may be defective?
While it may not hurt anything, it is not right, especially when the other amp, same company, is silent as it should be. On some amps, maybe the older ones, you can hear a relay after turn on, after 10-15 seconds. That prevents the popping. Modern amps may have a silent relay?

I'll give it a shot. I've had them for 1.5 years now. I don't think that anything can be done about it though.

As to silent relays, I think you mean solid state relays. They don't have any moving parts to click.

I turn all components on manually in the following order, pre-amp, dvd player or cable, and turn the amp on last. no pops. when shutting down, i turn the amp off first. i have had pop or other odd noises with different amps before at times when turning on or off, but using the last on/first off has solved the problem. may want to look at the amp manual to see if it has suggestions.

I guess a solid state relay would be silent but so would a mercury reed switch, like on thermostats?

His pops apparently when it is turned on not when other components are turned on subsequently.

True. But you can also get arcing with a mercury switch (hense it will wear out). I would think that giving todays technology they would not use those.

It still pops. :(

Well, you have either a design issue, or a failure in that amp, especially when the other amp, same company doesn't pop.
