If I put my speakers on the floor but at a angle towards my head would that suffice ?

I read before to place speakers about in the same plane as your head. When sitting in my chair if I put my speakers on the carpet but angle them to a degree where they are pointing to my head would I get most of the benefit as if they were on stands ? if not why not ? and at least will I get most of the benefits by angling them ?

The way my entertainment center is the highest I could go with stands for my speakers would be one foot at the most. But not sure if one foot off the ground would make any difference though. This is why I'm asking if I angle them on the floor if that would suffice. thanks

By the way I have L & R setup.

The one ft tall stands with them angled back a bit sounds like the next best compromise. If you can't get the tweeters up to ear level with the correct height stands.

My understanding is to avoid having the woofer too close to the floor. As to avoid interactions with the floor that will unnaturally increase bass. With the tweeter too low you'll be out of it's sweet spot.
I'm by no means an expert on this. So hopefully someone else will add their input.

Angling your speakers will not be the same for several reasons. First, as you move in your chair, either slightly forward or back, you will affect the angle of your head to the speakers, while keeping your head at the same height; thus, you will effectively be changing the apparent "height" of your speakers relative to your head. Second, if you have a coffee table or anything else like it, it may block the sound more than if you have your speakers on stands. Third, the bass may become boomy, as being near a room boundary affects bass response (and increases it). Fourth, you will likely have increased reflections off of the floor, as the bottom of the speaker will be closer to the floor, though what this will be like will be very dependent upon the particular speakers.

That said, it is better to angle them than to just set them flat on the floor, and if you can also raise them that foot that you mention, that will help, too.

As Pyrrho said, the problem is the introduced angle. Now you have to worry about horizontal movement AND vertical movement. You'll more quickly go off-axis in two planes if you're not careful. Angled speakers aren't really optimal either down or up for this reason. It's not BAD, but it's certainly not as optimal as getting them horizontal at ear height.

Are ceiling mounted speakers discouraged for this reason? It seams many manufacturers are selling in ceiling products, especially for surround.

They sell them because guys have wives.
They sell them because guys married the wrong women (and often, the women have also married the wrong guys, but that is a subject for another thread). My wife has never, ever, suggested in-ceiling speakers for surround or anywhere else. I am flabbergasted by some of the things I read online, both about the unreasonable wives, and about the sneaky, conniving husbands they often have. In-ceiling speakers are never ideal. They are there to be unobtrusive, not for reasons having to do with sound quality. Many other things are for reasons of convenience as well, like a horizontal center channel speaker; the ideal center is a speaker identical to the front right and left speaker, just like what is done in real movie theaters. But that, too, is a subject for another thread.

I'll take a horizontal center over in wall any day though :)

I too feel pain when I hear that a woman is dictating how things "shall be". That is for another thread too, because it isn't that the guy married the wrong woman, it is that he let's her be that way. It is akin to a parent giving in to a child's persistent begging. Who wears the pants? Concessions must be made in every relationship, but this is not one I would make, period. Mine doesn't complain about all the speakers or how things are setup, or anything either and there's never been a discussion about it.

I would figure out how to get your speakers to a height the tweets are at roughy 42"- 48". I personally prefer mine just slightly above my ears while sitting.
