Wow I had a nice post all written up, and the ghey *** forum decided to make me log in again and deleted my post. Poop
Yeh, I shouldn't get paid to do what I do. I have way too much fun there.
Bose customers are fun. Usually I can't talk them out of it, but some I can save. For those who insist on having it, I tack on as many attachments as possible just out of spite. I always recommend to replace all that thin speaker wire with our high end (high margin) Monster speaker wire. Also, you don't want to have your awesome new system get blown up by one stupid power surge, so you better spend $350 on this excellent power center provided by Monster.
My last Bose idio...erm... customer walked out of the store with the AM10III, which is a $1000 set. He also left with just over $1200 in Monster products, no joke. That was one of the sales that helped me hit 140% of my budget on Sunday, so I don't mind them that much.
As for the Onkyo, yeah that is a tough amp! The 701 is rated at 100wpc at 8ohm so don't worry about the 6ohm ratings because the Beta's are 8ohm speakers. But you are right, 160wpc at 6ohm is not as powerful as 160wpc at 8ohm.
JEITA is the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, which is basically the Japanese version of the FTC for electronics. Onkyo is a Japanese (Onkyo means "sound" in Japanese) company so they get verified wattage ratings over there too.
Circuit City doesn't carry Yamaha, but I think I would still get the HK for those Infinities. Afterall, they are the same company. I figure they test the products on eachother so they fit the best together, but who knows. All I know is they sound fine on the HK and they had that High problem on the Onkyo at lower volumes. In the end it is up to you, but you might want to try your Yamaha on them in the store before you make up your mind.
